Taking the Leap

After thinking about her conversation with Zack that morning, Heather had a sense of confidence about her. She had never wanted to really date a guy her age, but she had to be honest with herself and admit that she was developing strong feelings for Brandon that she didn’t know were there until they started having sex. She had made up her mind on the way to school that she was going to make her move today. She knew that the guy normally asked a girl out, but she was Heather Ravers and she was going to do it herself.

That day, while the group was at lunch, Heather went and sat beside Brandon and asked, “Can we meet up somewhere in private before practice today.” Heather said since she and Brandon both had practice that afternoon.

“Sure. Is everything okay?” Brandon asked.

“Yeah. Everything is fine, I just think that this conversation should be had in private.” Heather said.

“I will meet you outside of the gym before we go to practice then.” Brandon said and Heather nodded.

The group then got to talking about nothing in particular and having fun until it was time to go back to class. Heather hoped that the day went by quickly and she didn’t start to have second thoughts as she still had half a day to go.

It was finally the end of the day and Heather had found that she hadn’t had any second thoughts. On the contrary, she had been rather relaxed since lunch. She knew what she was doing was the right thing for her even if she had never really thought of being in a relationship with a guy her age.

“Hey. Looks like you beat me here.” Brandon said as he walked up to her.

“Yeah. I didn’t have much to do at the end of school so it didn’t take me long to get here.” Heather said.

“Sounds good. So, what did you want to talk about?” Brandon asked.

“I have been having second thoughts about some things. I know that I said that I wasn’t ready for a relationship of anything, but with all the fun we have been having lately, I have realized that I am starting to develop feelings for you. I know it is sudden, but I was wondering if you would be interested in going on a date?” Heather asked.

“I would love to. I have had feelings for you for a while now too. I just didn’t want to say anything because I knew how you felt about that.” Brandon said.

“So, now that we are on the same page here, we can talk about what we want to do for this date at a later time. We don’t need to be late for our practices.” Heather said and Brandon nodded his agreement as they both walked into the locker rooms to get ready for their respective practices.

While at practice, Heather was paying attention to the cheer squad, making sure they were doing what they needed to be doing. She was pleased with the progress that was being made with the new moves she had been implementing.

“Good job girls. Sharon, I need you all the way down with your split. Ashley, I want to see if you can add one more flip as you make your way across the ground. Tanya, I need you and the others to throw Ashley a bit higher when you throw her up in the air. Other than that, everything looked good.” Heather said and the other girls nodded as they went to do the routine again with the notes that Heather had just made.

It all worked out for the best this time around. Heather was happy with what she saw, so she called an end to practice as she didn’t want to jinx things and have a mistake in the next go around. They would work on it more tomorrow.

“That’s it girls. Let’s call it a day.” Heather said and most of the girls made their way to the locker room, while Sharon and Ashley walked over to her.

“You seem rather upbeat today. Anything we should know about?” Ashley asked.

“Zack didn’t tell you about our conversation this morning?” Heather asked.

“Nope. I think he keeps most of your conversations to himself. You do have me intrigued though.” Ashley said.

“Zack and I talked about my friends with benefits situation with Brandon and he made me see that I should just ask him out on a date, which I did, so now we are dating.” Heather said.

“Never thought I would see the day that Heather Ravers dated a guy her own age.” Sharon said with a smirk.

“Well, I never thought I would see the day that you and my brother were in a serious relationship.” Heather said with a smirk of her own.

“Touche.” Sharon said with a shrug.

“So, what are you two doing for your first date?” Ashley asked, getting very happy for her friend.

“Calm down Ash. We just decided that we were going to try this right before practice. We haven’t set anything up yet.” Heather said and Ashley had a little bit of a pout on her lips, but she did understand.

“Well, while we are out here, we might as well check out the soccer practice.” Sharon said and the other two nodded as they made their way into the bleachers so that they could have a better eye on what was going on out on the field.

Right as the three girls sat down, Zack made a move that led to him scoring a goal. The three girls cheered loudly for him and he heard them and smiled up at him.

“That’s it, baby. Show them how it’s done.” Ashley cheered.

“Yeah, big brother. Good job.” Heather cheered.

“That’s it Lion. Show them how to score.” Sharon cheered.

The other two girls turned to give Sharon a questioning look. Sharon looked at them and shrugged.

“What?” Sharon asked.

“That sounded like sex. I mean you even called him Lion.” Heather said.

“Yeah, you never call him that unless you are in the bed, plus he was showing them how to score. It’s like your mind was in the gutter when you said that.” Ashley said with a smirk.

Sharon shrugged again and said, “It was. Zack is just so sexy when he is out there on that field. I just can’t help myself.”

“Maybe you should hold off on the pet names though. You don’t need to be getting too sexual at school you know.” Ashley said.

“That’s true. It just sorta slipped out.” Sharon said.

“I don’t have a problem with it, but it could make you look bad if you do it enough though.” Heather said.

They watched the practice for a bit longer and Brandon finally got in on the action as he stopped a goal. This time it was just Heather who spoke up.

“That’s it Brandon. Good stop.” Heather cheered and Brandon lifted his hand in the air letting her know that he had heard her.

Heather couldn’t help but smile as she and the other two girls decided to go and get dressed so they would be ready to leave when the boys came out of the locker room. The three of them all showered and changed and were outside and waiting for the boys once practice was over.

“We will be out soon.” Zack said as he and the others went into the locker room and took showers and changed their clothes.

When Zack and Brandon finally made it out of the locker room, the three girls were out in the parking lot waiting at their cars for the guys to get there. As the guys walked up, Zack threw his arms around both of his girlfriends’ shoulders as Brandon walked behind Heather and put his arms around her toned body and put his chin on her shoulder.

“So, what’s the plan for the rest of the day?” Zack asked.

“Other than homework, not much.” Ashley said.

“Yeah. Same here.” Sharon said.

“I did most of mine earlier so I don’t have that much to do.” Heather said.

“Well, we could all go and hangout at Uncle Malcolm’s cafe for a little while if that works for you guys.” Zack said and everyone nodded at the idea.

“I think that would be fun.” Ashley said.

“Will Alice be there?” Sharon asked.

“Yeah. She works on the nights that I don’t.” Zack said.

“I want to see if I can tell her intentions.” Sharon said.

“You don’t have anything to worry about babe. Even if she does join us at some point, it won’t change anything between you and me.” Zack said.

“I know. I am just getting used to this is all. Let’s go. I will be on my best behavior. I promise.” Sharon said.

All of the teens got in their vehicles and made their way to the cafe, where they did find Alice working. Ashley was being very nice to her, just like Ashley is to everyone else. Sharon was nicer than anyone was expecting her to be, but they could also tell that she was tense and sometimes there were some smart ass remarks that she would make, which was normal for Sharon. Zack just shook his head at his redheaded girlfriend and smiled. That was just who she was and he knew that. Heather and Brandon were sitting beside each other holding hands while her head lay on his shoulder as she laughed at the way that her best friend was acting. She could see the possessiveness in Sharon. She know that her friend loved her brother and that was all that she could ask for, but she couldn’t help but think that Sharon was being a little too possessive though. Alice seemed like a nice girl, so she had no problem if something did happen between the brunette and her brother.

The teens stayed there for about an hour and a half and then they decided that they needed to get home and get their homework done for the next day at school. As they all left, Zack got kisses from both of his girlfriends and Brandon got one from Heather. As Zack and Heather got into the car, they both turned to each other and Zack said, “Looks like you finally took the leap.”

“Yep. I figured I might as well give it a try.” Heather said as Zack started to drive toward home.
