Go For One More, Or Be Content With What You Have?
Take What You Have, Let The Others Be Fruitful And Multiply.
You decide you have enough, better to let the others go and breed more swine to hunt later. "<We have enough I think, Let us make haste to the Great Mound.>" You inform the Lizardfolk, and the procession sets off once more.
It takes another two hours to reach the Great Mound, which is actually seven mounds arranged in a hexagon with one larger one at the center and surrounded by a log palisade and moat. You see many lizardfolk going about their business inside this fortified encampment, perhaps sixty or seventy in all, (including youngsters and the elderly,) before you reach the mound where the meeting will take place. "Stay here, we will fetch the chieftess and her counsel," your escorts state, and you settle in to wait.
It is late afternoon when the chieftess and her counselors arrive, dressed in their full regalia, some of which looks a little careworn as it was made from the cloth the king used to send and has not been able to be repaired for three years.
"<Sun and sweet water to you,>" you recite the traditional greeting.
"Good Hunting and Sunlight," The Chieftess replies in draconic, "May I know your name 'Dragon-who-speaks-for-the-King'?" she asks. The Chieftess has bright yellow scales and the most athletic build you've ever seen on a female lizardfolk, quite obviously an accomplished warrior.
"You may call me 'Lord Krishosh'," You reply, "<Now what may I call you?>" You ask in her own language.
"<I am known as Chieftess Sunwell, these are my counselors, High-Priest Suntoucher, Cheif Druidess Gaia's-Hand, Skald Longtongue, and my bodyguard, Ravenblade.>" She says indicating in turn: another bright yellow scaled lizardkin, possibly her brother if the family resemblance is any indication: a dark green scaled female, even with the typical androgeny of lizardfolk this is patently obvious in this case as she is currently gravid and showing: an elderly lizardfolk, (whose gender you can't determine,) with bluish-green scales: and an athletic lizardfolk who almost matches the chief's powerful frame, with grayish green scales and a number of scars.
"<Well met, all of you,>" You state, and settle in the grass of this mound. "<I assume we all know why I have come already, but before we begin the negotiations I would ask that the skald read or recite the terms of the previous compact, so I know what was agreed to in the past. I charge him in the name of Sol-En-Victus and Gaia both to leave no detail out that was there before and add no detail in that was not,>"
"<Do you insult my honesty Lord Krishosh?>" The Skald demands angrily.
"<No, I honor and respect your skill and shrewdness. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by adding or omitting details, thus why I invoke divine protection of your sacred role as a keeper of lore and law,>" you tell him, and he looks angry still, but less so than he was.
"<I need no 'divine protection', my own honor is enough,>" he replies, then begins to recite the terms of the old compact.
What Were The Terms Of The Old Compact?
