Sue Storm's Smartphone

"Place it on the desk."

Doctor Doom's voice rumbled from a hidden speaker. On the apparently wooden desktop, a glowing white rectangle appeared. Moonstone place the Invisible Woman's smartphone in the center of it. Then the villain stood back as the screen flickered to life. Though she could see nothing of what occurred, she knew that Doom was working his magic with Sue's phone.

"What are you doing, exactly?" Moonstone asked. "I mean, I assume Mister Fantastic has protections in place to keep you from accessing her phone."

"Indeed," Doom said. "What I do now will circumvent Richard's protections."

The white rectangle rose from the surface of the desk into mid-air. The smartphone vanished. For a moment the glowing shape hung there. Then it descended once again, and the smartphone reappeared. It did not appear any different than before.

Moonstone waited patiently. Doom was a classic megalomaniac. He would not be able to resist bragging.

"I have replaced the smartphone with a temporal duplicate. This model includes synthetic crystals based on your moonstone. While they lack the particular powers of your alien gemstone, they are sympathetic to its nature, and will act as extensions of your ability. Already, you should be able to feel their presence."

The blonde villain blinked as she parsed that.

"You mean...I can use my gravity manipulation powers on Sue Storm through her phone?" Moonstone said as she held out her hand. There was something there, in the phone. With a thought it rose up into the air, a simple expression of antigravity. Yet there was more than that. When Moonstone closed her eyes, she could feel the gravitational pull around the object, as she could with her own body. It was truly an extension of herself.

"Correct," Doom's voice was strangely hollow. "She returns."

The glowing rectangle vanished. There was a knock at the door.

"Come in!" Dr. Stone called as she stepped to the door and opened it. A flustered heroine, already in her Fantastic Four outfit, appeared there.

"Hi! Sorry! Forgot my phone!" Sue Storm said with an apologetic grin.

Dr. Stone stepped aside as Sue reached out, an invisible **** field grasping the phone and carrying it to her. Then she turned and ran down the hallway, toward whatever threat had demanded her attention.

Moonstone closed the door, sat down at her desk, and pulled out a bottle and glass from the lower drawer. The whiskey was like liquid amber in the afternoon sunlight. Doctor Doom's implants had already extended her powers. Now he had empowered her further...and as she sipped the Johnny Walker Black Label, she wondered how she would use this new power against Sue Storm.
