Story 1: A Cog in the Machine

Bandits have been raiding the area. Lux has been hired to find their hideout and learn what is behind the attacks.

It has been a long trek up into the foothills, and Lux is starting to wonder if this job will be worth the reward. The town of Eldborough has been abuzz with stories about bandit raids for days, but the town’s militia have had no luck finding the source of the attacks. Lux figured it would be a matter of a day’s scouting to find the bandits’ camp, and she’d be getting paid in no time.

So far, though, there’s been no sign of anything out of the ordinary. Brown, grassy hillsides stretch as far as the eye can see, and the dirt tracks that pass for roads seem abandoned. The autumn air is getting cold, and Lux is going to have to think about finding a spot to set camp before too long. So much for getting done in a day.

She clutches her cloak around her and presses on, following the road uphill.
