Chapter 9 by Coy-toy Coy-toy

Which do you choose?

Stolen livestock

Looking through all the quests that you qualified for, you come across one that seems, well, different to say the least. It read:

Wanted: youthful male adventurer willing to play part in helping farm. The farm is located directly against the walls of the village, opposite side of the wealthy home residences. They have had two cases of livestock theft in the night, and suspect monsters from the forests.

You wondered briefly why they needed a young male, but just chalked it up to the clients preferences. You took the quest from the board, and waited in line to meet with a guild clerk. You walk up to the first available, a dark makeuped young human. She didn’t really look up at you as she greeted you and took the parchment from your hand, that is until she recognized which one. At that point she looked you up and down, noting “hmm, good look. I don’t think they’ll mind a kitty boy… yea should work.” At that point she switched from talking to herself about you to actually addressing you. “So, two B grade adventures working to protect the farm made this request. I’ll send them word you’ll meet them at the farm, they’ll want to meet you right away. The pay includes… let’s see… being apart of the farms profits, per their contract.”

Wow, this is a lot of potential perks. Working with higher grades, which has its own perks, but also if you understand correctly a permanent payout of partial ownership. You aren’t really sure if the dangers, and don’t think about why they would need someone like you. You sign the contract, and get directions to the farm.

It takes about 2 hours to walk out the gate, and take the path around to the farm in question. It’s elegant looking, multiple pinned and well kep areas outside large farms. Strangely, though you see workers, you don’t see any animals. As you continue to walk up to the main house in the center of the compound, you begin to notice something about the half dozen workers you’ve seen.

What do the workers have in common?
