Step-Son Gets Them

Rory McMullen found the rings in a magic shop. He was not sure why, but he was pretty sure they were magical and would work. Even if the bored girl behind the counter just shrugged. Rory was 18 and had just graduated high school. He lived with his step-mother Cindy and his 21 year old step-sister Maggie, who had to move back home after flunking out of college. Cindy lived off of Rory's dad's inheritance. His dad having been killed by a drunk driver three years earlier.

Rory could not wait until college started that fall as he would be out of the house. He got a full ride scholarship to Stanford.

Rory did a test. "Cindy, would you mind if I took all the cash out of your purse?"

"No." She handed them her keys.

"Mom, what's going on?"
