Stalemate

Author’s Notes: To get an idea of how the combat would go, all characters will be Hedging Rolls (pg 182, 2d6 dice roll becomes a 7) in the first round of combat.

Bounty Hunter: HP55/55, Energy 45/45

[Slight Edge for Bastard Sword(Accurate)]: Attack +15, Defense +15, Damage+22

Robert: HP50/50, Energy 40/40, AR10

[Slight Edge for Bastard Sword(Accurate)]: Attack+14, Defense+14, Damage+21

Highway Bandits: HP50/50, Energy 40/40

Attack +13, +13, Damage+21(Longsword)

Brandy: HP 45/45, Energy 40/40, AR20(30 if using Holy Barrier)

Attack+10, Defense+15, Damage+28(Greatsword)

The Bounty Hunter moves first and in a flash of blinding speed he slashes at Robert who is unable to dodge or block the attack. He cries out in pain as the blade cuts into his flesh (Damage22-AR10=12 Damage to Robert; Health 38/50). Robert swings back at the Bounty Hunter but is unable to connect. The Highway Bandits each take a swing at Robert and Brandy but neither of their attacks are able to connect. Instead of Attacking, Brandy uses Holy Barrier (**** Field+Area+Noticeable-Depleate, costs 10 Energy, Brandy 30/40 Energy) which surrounds both herself and Robert in the **** Field and yells out “STOP!”

Confused as much by the appearance of the magical barrier as by Brandy’s voice, everyone actually does stop fighting. But nobody drops their guard or puts their swords away.

“Now I don’t know why you all are fighting. But Robert here made his way to my temple a few days ago and asked for help. Help that I am providing. I do not wish to harm any of you, but if you **** me I shall show you the might of a follower of Shelyn.”

[roll to influence, using her status as a follower of Shelyn: roll 2d6+3. 4+2+3=9]

They laugh at the suggestion, loudly. Stopping himself long enough to respond, the Bounty Hunter tells Brandy “Lady, I don’t know what Robert told you. But I am going to collect his bounty, but you.” He grins at the young woman, and then dashes forward with a bust of speed, swinging his sword at Brandy and

his sword bounces harmlessly off her Holy Barrier.

Surprised, the Bounty Hunter and the Bandits simply stand there for a moment. Eventually though, the bounty hunter turns around and kicks a rock on the road, crying out “FUCK!” a he does so. He turns back to the pair and tells them. “You lucked out today Robert, but you won’t be able to hide behind that woman forever.” With that said, he storms off, his two minions close behind him.

Robert’s reaction is to simply stand there, sword still at the ready as he watches the Bounty Hunter run off. He is so focused that he doesn’t even notice that Brandy has moved besides him until she starts to heal his injures.

Healing Touch [Healing+Detectable+Depleate; -10 Energy, Brandy has 20/40 energy left]

Noticing that his injuries are now gone, Robert simply looks at Brandy for a moment before saying “Thank you.”

Brandy does not answer him back, rather she grabs her sword and starts walking off in a huff.

Robert mutters to himself. “Damn, guess she is mad at me.” as he starts to follow the young woman. Robert isn’t discouraged though because this is a problem he can fix. He just has to give her some of the old Robert Charm.

Author’s Notes: Well, that was, anticlimactic. I will have to make some better enemies because Brandy was basically untouchable. Sure, her odds of hitting back were LOW, but she would have gotten lucky eventually. The fight would have taken FOREVER though.

They DID survive the encounter, I’ll have to give the both of them a few character points to upgrade them a bit.
