Chapter 4 by Masa Mune Masa Mune

Who's next?

Sporty and Unknown

Bethany's suspicious gaze focused back on Circe as the latter kept talking.

"Our third contestant is someone our dear Marcus hasn't seen in years. They went to the same high school, though they never shared a class, which didn't prevent our Master from watching her through the window whenever she was in P.E. And contestant number three is... Alexandra Anderson!"

Bethany narrowed her eyes as Circe called the man 'our Master', though she didn't get to think about it much before a spotlight revealed a young woman somehow sitting to her left. Said young woman had short red hair, barely going further than her neck. She had green eyes, and her pale skin was dotted with a light dusting of freckles. She was wearing a blue short jacket, left open to expose her white shirt, as well as a pair of jeans and running shoes.

She also wasn't staying idle, turning in her seat to look around for a moment and nearly standing up before she spoke. "Hey, what the hell? Who're you and where is this?"

Circe chuckled lightly before answering. "Hello, ms Anderson. I'm Circe, and this is the stage of a tv show where you have been chosen as one of the contestants. Now, I still have some more contestants to introduce, so if you would please wait for them before asking any more questions?"

"So, we're on tv? Neat." Alexandra said, smiling as she sat back down in her chair, making Circe chuckle some more before she moved on.

"Now, onto our fourth contestant. This one is a bit of a special case, as our dear Marcus never actually saw that contestant. They met on an online mmorpg and played together a few times, not always on the same game, only briefly chatting before they had to part ways. Let's reveal..."

Marcus was quite intrigued. He wasn't expecting her to be chosen, since as Circe said they never actually met, so unlike the others, he didn't actually know what she would look like. She probably wouldn't be as attractive as her characters, but from the equipments she used on said characters he thought she was probably a goth. He leaned forward in his chair as Circe finished the introduction.

"... Jared Hicks!"

Whatever Marcus was expecting, it wasn't the young man suddenly sitting in the fourth chair. He had shoulder-length brown hair, slightly sunken blue eyes, pale skin, a sort mustache and goatee, and he was wearing an open black jacket, a black t-shirt with the grim reaper on it, a pair of jeans and a pair of black and red running shoes. Marcus found his voice as the other man cast a quick look around him.

"Wait, you're a guy?!" Jared immediately looked at him, his confusion apparent as Alexandra started snickering, and he raised an eyebrow, giving Marcus a deadpan look. "... Yes?" Marcus' stunned expression must have been funny, because Alexandra started laughing out loud as she asked him. "Wait, you thought he was a girl?" She kept laughing as Jared sat back, crossing his arms and putting a foot on the opposite knee before looking away, seemingly bored.

Marcus wasn't laughing however. Once the embarrassment passed he was quite angry, in fact. This wasn't supposed to happen! Circe put a hand on his shoulder before he could say anything, and he immediately started glaring at her as she spoke. "Now, dear. Remember the season's theme." He kept glaring as she gave him a cheeky grin. What does she mean 'remember the season's'... Oh. His anger melted away, his expression becoming one of understanding, something which didn't escape Bethany's notice.

Meanwhile, Circe was trying to get back on track. "Ms Anderson, if you would stop laughing, I still have two last contestants to introduce."

And the last pair?
