What To Do?

Speak With The Woman In The Bullpen

Chapter 5 by BlindSeer BlindSeer

Violet approaches the woman at the desk, laid across it are pieces of a service pistol, analysis reveals it to be heavily modified chambered in 12mm and hosting a capacity of 21 rounds. Not far from the disassembled weapon is an ashtray with a lit cigarette resting precariously on the edge.

Along a partition separating the desk from others in its small clump, rest small pieces of decoration much of it revealing.

A photograph of a child, female, estimated at 12 years of age and baring a striking resemblance to the woman at the desk.

A red leaflet with the words “Remember Hastings” in black text, clearly some kind of slogan but for what group or cause isn’t readily apparent.

Finally at the very edge of the partition is a picture of the woman from some time ago, approximately 14 years. In the photo the woman bares a large, proud smile and pinned to her jacket is a golden pin resembling a crown, the officer is highly decorated.

The woman in question is estimated at 47 years of age, muscular build, white with black hair and blue eyes, dressed in athletic wear and an eyepatch as well as several semi fresh scars along the head, and arms, nearly all of them approximately 2 months old. During scanning it’s discovered that faint traces of chlorophyll reside on the woman’s hands, perhaps she’s a fan of gardening.

“Something I can do for ye, bot?” Asks the woman, raising her gaze from her work and leaning back in her chair as she takes a drag from her cigarette.

The woman’s accent is distinctive, she hails from Scotland by the sound of it.

“My name is Violet, Captain Morris recently activated me and brought me back into service… might I have your name?”

The woman narrows her eyes, giving a brief scan along the automaton, seemingly deciding whether or not to answer the question before finally, there comes a reply.

“…Nora… but you call me Officer MacGregor got it?” She says, her tone of voice indicating caution, perhaps she holds reservations about robots?

“Identity Confirmed; I look forward to working with you Officer MacGregor, I’m sure we’ll accomplish great things together!” A small file is written somewhere in Violets CPU, a sort of dossier not dissimilar to those compiled for criminals.

“Uh huh, yeh I’m sure we’ll save the city, there any other reason why you’re bothering me or are ye going to get tae?”

It’s clear to see that this individual has some level of distrust towards robots, though it may be beneficial to gather further data points on colleagues for easier cooperation, pushing too far or asking the wrong question may come across as intrusive, alienating Violet from her colleagues and putting a strain on the working relationship.
