How Does Violet Proceed?

Ask About Medal

Chapter 6 by BlindSeer BlindSeer

“That photo… you have a medal pinned to your jacket that I don’t recognize… could you tell me about it…?” Asks Violet, gesturing to the picture pinned to the partition.

“Hm..? Oh, right… ye wouldn’t know it looking at the city today but… there was a time when mutants ran these streets… swarmed like locusts, they did… well, I put together a team and we began clearing the city, door by door, block by block.” She states, staring into the older version of herself, as though staring into the happiest period of her life.

“And you were given the Medal for your efforts?” Says Violet, studying the woman as she leans back in her chair, staring contemplating something that the automaton cannot place.

“Aye… that I was… I was given a Gold Circlet… just about the highest honor the Crown can bestow short of a fiefdom…”

“How many mutants had you managed to slay..? During my trek to Lambeth we had not come across a single one.”

There’s a long pause, so long that Violet begins to fear that she had not been heard of that the conversation is at an end when suddenly she responds.

“Enough…” that one word seems to hold much weight within the woman as she stares into the photograph, seemingly lost in thought or perhaps memories.

“Are you alright Officer MacGregor?” This question seems to pull the officer from the pit she had been lost in moments before, she closes her eyes for a time before opening them and returning back to her work.

“I’m fine… just remembered something is all…” she says, her tone of voice leaving no room for misunderstanding that it’s not a topic for discussion.
