Chapter 12 by RighteousDevil RighteousDevil

What else can you find?

Some tinkering

You, Xilmomoth, The, fiendish priestess with no epithet, can’t find much else in the attic. You could smash all the pots on the shelves, you’ve seen people do that, but that seems unnecessary. Might as well try and make things more comfortable. You lay out the blanket, move a shelf to split the attic into two pieces, and create a sort of sleeping area. Not bad. You also find a bell. Not a large bell like the kind that hangs in a tower, the small kind. You have a ton of string now so you set it up to ring when the attic door is opened. Thanks to the rules on string, it can be fused back together with no length penalty so it’s easy to reuse. You have no idea why they added that rule. It’s convenient right now though.

Suddenly,

Milestone reached: install a trap.

I guess an alarm counts. You select the prompt. Wow, there’s a lot of achievements.

Slay intruder, garrison 5 minions, survive a siege, build a tower. Where did all of these come from? You’re pretty sure that this back end stuff is just applied manually. You are part of the extrapolative memory though. Maybe you are generating this just by encountering it? Not an impossible theory.

What are some easier ones though?

“Hey, can you come look in the attic?”

Markus climbed up the wooden ladder and peeked inside, the bell rang, and glanced around to see it still swinging.

“Nice” he muttered, “wait, look for what”

“Nothing” you say, “I’m testing something”

He climbs back down the ladder.

Milestone reached: repel one intruder. Relative level multiplier 6x. Not bad at all.

A lot of messing around with string and darts later.

Milestone reached: install 3 different trap types

One rat scurrying by later.

Milestone reached: slay one intruder.

Why are there even rats in here anyway? Most people install vermin bane stones or something. Must be a novelty.

Well, time to call it a night. It is getting late. You aren’t sure why you are diurnal anyway. You actually see better at night. I suppose this way you aren’t mainly encountered when you are trying to sleep. Leave that to vampires or maybe dragons to get woken up by invading adventurers.

A good night’s sleep?
