Some talk, then a place to rest.

"Tarquin," Dew said, "How long have you been down here?"

"A couple years," he said. He set the tray down and passed the mugs around. He took one for himself and sat in the chair next to Myria's.

"No trouble with the toads?" Cecilia asked.

"Some," he admitted. "But I defeated any that I encountered, and... well... since I am not female, they have little use for me." He shifted awkwardly in his armchair at that.

"Yeah..." Myria said, taking a mug. It smelled wonderful. "They're much more interested in giving dick rather than getting dick."

"Have you seen any other adventurers like us?" Cecilia asked. She sat at one of the smaller wood chairs at the table, which groaned under her armor.

"A few," he said. "Some have traded information, or equipment. I've helped one or two find their way back to the surface. I try to stay out of affairs down here."

"What is your research about?" Dew asked.

"There is something in the caves here, far deeper than the toad lairs, that leaves a unique magical signature," Tarquin said. "I am taking measurements. I'm still not sure what it is..."

"Fascinating," Myria said, sipping her tea. "All that magic stuff. You and Dew should trade notes some time."

"I would be happy to," said Tarquin.

"Tarquin," Cecilia said, "you seem trustworthy. Might we rest here before continuing on our quest?"

"Of course!" Tarquin said. "I have a guest room just this way."
