Chapter 6 by Adyen Adyen

What happens next?

Some risks will need to be taken for the mission

I stretched Akemi's body (my body, I mentally corrected myself, to avoid creating a flaw that others might discover what happened) to rid myself of the feeling from being paralyzed the night before. The fact that this allowed me to examine every part of my new body is merely an afterthought!

With that out of the way, I focused on the one glaring fault on the spell: that I received no memories or training from any of the bodies I acquire. Sure, a bit of the body's physical training remained, but magic and memories? With the spell actively using the body's own magical powers, it makes training in any new magic near impossible - and without knowledge from the original consciousness, it would had taken a deep investigation to find out what arcane knowledge the target of the spell knew and even more time plus effort training in the body to cast it. This would be easier if I can access some of the new body's memories, but I can't!

While there had been a lone caster had managed to eventually read memories from his new body, it was never replicated in any tests nor was such a function ever added to the final spell due to the time constraints we royal mages were put under - at least, officially. I know a few mages who had drawn up some theories on how this could be done... and I'm one of them. A few of my fellow mages had on their own time attempted modifications to the spell to add that "function", but I work more in the theory side of spellcrafting.

The main reason that I don't get any of the body's memories, despite controlling practically everything about the body, is that the spell will suppress the body's own consciousness to the point where it can't affect my control of it. The problem is that the spell considers memories to be equal to thoughts in terms of things that will influence my will in her body (though I suspect it's actually because the worry that the beastmen's barbaric minds might affect our thinking, which is preposterous since that would require the caster to be unable to tell the difference between those memories). The answer, in theory then, would be to loosen up seal so that I would be able to read the body's memories... which is why I've been examining every part of Akemi's body.

I need to firmly solidify my consciousness within her currently empty mind so that when I loosen the barrier, her memories don't affect the rest of the spell and my control of Akemi's body. And the best way to do that is to completely examine her body until I can self-identify it as my body.

And clearly not because of how good it felt!

The only problem is that I've only ever theorized the method due to the lack of time, so this is the first time I'm putting it into practice. But even if everything does go wrong, I'll still be perfectly fine since the spell isn't reliant on suppressing Akemi's consciousness. If push comes to shove, I'm sure my own willpower will be enough to suppress the will of a mere savage. And even if something completely unexpected happens, I can still just cut the link and re-establish the spell again later. But if I succeed, this will allow me to complete the mission in a more efficient manner, which is why I'm willing to take that risk. After all, what can go wrong with a genius of my caliber?

How does the attempt to gain Akemi's memories go?
