Unexpected success

What just happened was hard for me to describe. I took a breath and opened my eyes, squinting as I stretched my arms.

As I looked at my fingers, everything just felt... natural. There wasn't any feelings of unnaturalness, nor was there any sense that "this was not my body". I would have thought there would be some kind of shock or even a sense of how unnatural this was, but looking at my chipped fingernails from years of ****, there was merely the thought: "Oh, my hands."

As I opened my other eyes, I lifted my other hands and examined my carefully red-painted nails. I watched as I moved my hands in the same way with both my bodies and frowned slightly.

Absentmindedly, I picked up the brush I always left beside my bed and started brushing my tail. As I reflect on what happened, I realized that while annoying, the spell was correct in isolating memories and not just the consciousness.

One thing that the royal mages didn't know was how long the Hundred Races can live - Hundred Races being the collective name used by those with bestial traits. While not living for extremely long, it is longer than humans - Victor has been alive for 34 years, of which a majority of them were spent as a mage trained by the crown facilities. Akemi, however, has been alive for nearly 57 years, though she looked like her late 20ies.

What did I think would happen when I suddenly gain nearly double the amount of memory that I can't separate from other memories? I intellectually know that I'm Victor, but... I feel like Akemi. Maybe her consciousness is affecting me, but just remembering the home I... she had to escape from brings a throb to my heart. The crying face of children as we escaped was heartbreaking and will forever be engraved in my heart.

When we finally arrived in Thresford, I thought we could finally rest and settle down. While the people here were cautious, they were more concerned about whether we could work than how different we looked. It took time, but as we worked together, we started trusting each other and accepted that we could stay and make a home here. My people looked up to me to guide and protect them, but those from the kingdom... I would have never guessed what kind of rumors were being spread, but the plans they had for us...

I gripped my human hands into a fist even as I finished up grooming myself. I wasn't going to let anything happen to my people, and it seemed like the perfect weapon was delivered right into my lap.
