Chapter 5

A slip of the tongue or more? (Alternate answers welcome)
Slip and fall...
Ivanna shook her head. 'It must have been a slip of the tongue. Maybe he was eyeing that secretary of theirs.' She sat up while putting her phone away. 'I hope I'm wrong and my Franco isn't sleeping with her...' That was when she glanced at her rubber band gun. 'I should see what this thing can do.' She picked it up, walking toward the kitchen. She had the perfect target in mind. She aimed at the center candle of the three candlestick holder on the dining table. She thought about the possibility of Franco cheating on her.
She squeezed the trigger, firing the first rubber band. To her surprise, the candle didn't move. She started to pout, looking at her rubber band gun. 'Did I somehow miss? Or is this thing defective?' She was certain she was standing close enough. However, while lost in thought, she heard a thud. She blinked, looking toward the sound. Upon looking back at the candlestick holder, the middle candle had been cut clean in half. The top half of the candle was laying next to the rubber band that she had fired at it.
She picked up the broken candle and bit her bottom lip. 'Fuck this gun is awesome.' She let out a soft squeal. She did a little dance, shaking her hips left then right for a few seconds. She stopped as she realized she had made a mess that was clearly noticeable. If she was wrong about Franco's infidelity, she didn't want there to be any evidence of her suspicions. She reloaded the used rubber band into her gun then set it on the table. She let out a soft sigh before working on fixing the broken candle. Using one of the other candles to melt it just enough to fuse it back together.
She waited for ten seconds for it to hold well enough before letting it go. It was stable, ish. It only looks slightly damaged if you look at it... She gently scratched the back of her head. 'He is definitely going to notice...' She looked around to see if she could blame it on anything else. That was when she noticed a handsome black and grey Maine Coon outside in her backyard. This cat was her neighbor's. Luckily he liked her well enough. His name was Twisted of all the silly things. She looked around before heading to the backdoor. "Twisted, come here please."
He looks to her, walking quickly over. He nuzzles against her right leg gently, purring softly. She gently rubbed the top of his head. "It's good to see you too. Would you like some salmon?" His head lifted up as his ears lean forward. His golden yellow eyes widening slightly. He was definitely interested. She giggled. "Follow me." He followed immediately after her. Although he was a big cat, as all Maine Coons are, his footsteps were silent. She walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a pouch of salmon.
He sat by her feet, licking his lips while watching her. "This is a bribe for taking the fall for me later. Okay, Twisted?" His eyes watched the salmon packet as she started to open it. His head bobbed slightly up and down as if to nod in agreement. She giggled. "You're a good and handsome boy. Yes, you are!" She moved to get a small dish out for him, pouring the contents of the salmon pouch into it. She set it down, allowing him to eat it happily. She gently rubbed the top of his head as he ate. "I wish my husband wasn't allergic to cats..."
She shook her head. 'I need to take my mind off of this.' That was when there was a knock at the door. As she went to go check it, she heard something fall followed by a wooden clank. Twisted had gotten up on the table and knocked over the candlestick holder. However, he had knocked her rubber band gun to the floor. She gasped. "No! Bad, Twisted!" That was when she realized that technically her story of him breaking the candle was no longer a lie since all three were broken in half. She let out a soft sigh. "Never mind, you're still a good boy."
She kissed the top of his head while lifting him off of the table and back in front of his food dish. There was another knock at the door. "Coming!" She yelled, picking up her rubber band gun this time before walking to the front door. When she opened the door, there were two attractive police officers wearing protective gear and shades. She only had a moment to look at their badges. The short white woman with brunette hair was Officer Winston. The man next to her was Officer Jefferson, a tall black man without any hair that she could see. "Hello, officers. What can I do for you?"
Officer Winston stepped forward as Officer Jefferson took a step back. "We're sorry to bother you, ma'am. Are you, Mrs. Costa?" Ivanna blinked, but slowly nodded. "Yeah, that's me. Is there something wrong?" During this moment, she used a mental command to open her inventory and put her rubber band gun inside. Officer Winston let out a soft sigh. "We're going to need you to come down to the station to answer a few questions." Ivanna glanced back toward the kitchen then down at her bare legs. She knew better than to argue with officers, but she needed to get dressed. "May I at least put on a skirt and shoes? I rather not go in just my shirt and underwear."
The Officers looked at one another before nodding. Officer Winston stepped inside. "My partner will stay out here." Ivanna closed the door before walking toward her bedroom. After reaching her bedroom with Officer Winston in tow, she slipped on a cute knee length red pleated skirt, ankle high white socks, and French sole red flats. She looked for her phone and purse. "I'm basically ready to go. Um, may I let my neighbor's cat out first? I rather he not get stuck in here for too long. My husband is allergic to cats."
Officer Winston nodded. Ivanna walked to the kitchen. "Twisted, it's time to go." Twisted looked up to her while licking his lips again. He had just finished his meal. She reached down to gently caress his head. "Be a good boy and head home. I need to go with these officers." He gently nuzzled against her hand before looking at Officer Winston. Officer Winston backed up slightly. "Whoa... That's a big cat. What is he?" Ivanna giggled. "He's a Maine Coon. Don't let his size intimidate you. He's just a big softy." She gently caressed his back. "Want to pet him?"
Officer Winston reached down to gently caress Twisted's head. "He's so soft." Ivanna smiled. "Isn't he?" She gently ushered him out the backdoor. "I'll see you later." He looked back at them, letting out a worried meow before walking off when the door was closed. Ivanna turned to leave with Officer Winston. Once she got into the back of their car and started to drive off. She began to wonder what this was all about. Did this have something to do with her husband?
