Chapter 3
by porneia
How does the party react?
Shockingly well.
“Eaubonne, do you have Obscurement memorized?” Saul bluntly asks.
“Yes.” Vivian gives a pleased grin that Sir Michael Dupré is taking the lead.
“Good.” Saul nods and then looks at the buxom brunette, “Rae, do you have a Light spell you can cast?”
“Yes, she nods.”
“Good”. Saul then points at the map. “Everyone run down this street toward where the road forks into North and East Wattling Way.”
“Got it.” Brian complies and immediately moves his figure in the direction Saul suggested, as does Vivian and then Sandra.
“Well?” The new leader looks at David. “Is Ragnar coming with us or not?”
“Show off.” David finally answers and moves his figure with everyone else. “Okay, what is the play boss?”
“Stephen?” Saul asks you, “Is there anything swaying, swinging, or moving, about on East Wattling? Like a shop sign? Or a flag or pennant?”
After your percentage dice come up low, you grant Saul's request. “Yes, there is laundry blowing about in the breeze off a second-story window.”
“Perfect.” Saul smiles. “Rae I need you to cast a light spell on a shirt on the laundry then Eaubonne cast Obscurement around the area of the building. Everyone then run down North Wattling and jump down into the tunnel under this small bridge and head west towards the dock district.”
“Smart.” Brian looks down at the map. “You're distracting them to the east while we head west.
Saul looks at David, “Take some of the coins you stole from the Overlord's Chamber and cast them into Eaubonne's cloud.
“What coins?” The thief does a terrible job of lying.
“Wait!” Brian, playing the paladin protests. “We were promised that only the evil artifact would be taken. I have my knightly vows to uphold.”
“We don't have time for this.” Saul forcefully interjects. “We can all find religion later, but right now we have to move.”
“Alright.” Both David and Brian mutter unintentionally at the same time.
Saul looks at you, “Well, does this work?”
Though you could poke holes into parts of Michael Dupré's plan, such as his assumption the tunnel under the bridge isn't grated, or that they're big enough to walk through, you answer "Sounds good to me", since you try to reward creative thinking. “Everyone roll Dex to see if you can move quickly and efficiently. Please, just don't fumble. Saul, please roll Wisdom for the overall plan.”
No one fumbles, and of course, Saul rolls the highest with a natural 20, which brings applause from the rest of the players.
“That was amazing.” Vivian smiles.
“Well done!” Brian adds, not noticing that his girlfriend has a bit of a crush on his friend.
“I can't lie.” David quips, “I have a bit of an erection.”
“Smartly played.” Sandra nods, which is the one reaction that brings Saul the most pleasure as he smiles at the curvy librarian science major. You cannot help be but a little jealous of your best friend right now.
“You make your way through the tunnel and it appears that you have, for now, lost the city guards.” You state, getting the players' focus back on the game. “This tunnel comes out in the Docks District, which is one of the seedier sections of town.”
“Oh, great,” Brian complains. “Perfect place for a paladin.”
“What are these buildings near the exit?” Saul asks.
Looking through the module book you answer. “As you leave the tunnel you see three buildings near you by the waterfront. The first one is the Tavern of the Spanking Spriggan. Next to it is the processing building and auction house for the thriving **** trade the City-State is infamous for. Finally, there is a temple to the goddess Rudd.”
“We should lay low someplace and make our next plans,” Saul advises the party.
Which building does the party choose?
