Chapter 118 by Cretan_Bull14 Cretan_Bull14

Does Taylor get in trouble?

She lies her ass off

Jennifer had gotten a call about ten minutes prior to her arrival. Old Man Johnson had called to complain about screaming coming from Ravers’ Cabin, which was not far from his. As she put her patrol truck into park, she could see two girls emerging from the lake. In the fading light, she could see one girl had blood coming from her nose and was gasping for air. The other, larger girl seemed to have some kind of control over her.

“PARK RANGER! HANDS UP WHERE I CAN SEE ‘EM!” Jennifer shouted, her gun drawn and pointed it at the girl on her feet.

“THANK GOD YOU’RE, RANGER! MY FRIEND JUST FELL IN THE LAKE!” Taylor shouted back.

Upon hearing that, Jennifer, holstered her weapon and grabbed the CB clipped to the epaulette on her left shoulder. While she inspected Victoria’s vitals, she spoke over the radio.

“SL-2 to Dispatch: Over!” she called in.

“Dispatch to SL-2: What is it, Jennifer?” a female voice answered back.

“Attention, Dispatch: I’m at Ravers’ Cabin responding to a noise complaint. It appears we have a drowning rescue on our hands. Requesting backup ASAP!” Jennifer responded. “Okay Miss, what happened?”

“My friend here, she broke up with her boyfriend about an hour ago. I came over to get his things, when I saw her out on the dock. I called out to her to see if she was okay. When she stood up, she slipped, hit her head, and fell in. When I didn’t see her come back up, I jumped in after her.” Taylor lied.

“Okay. How did her nose get broken?” the ranger asked.

“When I got her up off the bottom, she panicked. I had to hit her to keep her from pulling me under.”

“Hmm. Why would you be here picking up her boyfriend’s, err ex-boyfriend’s belongings? And why did they break up?” Jennifer asked.

“He’s my brother, ma’am! They broke up because someone else set him up and she didn’t believe it. She was so upset with him that she didn’t let him explain. She just ran off,” Taylor finished explaining as Jennifer finished examining Victoria.

“Miss, can you tell me your name?” the ranger asked the stunned blonde lying in the sand.

“Vic…Vic…” was all she could say as she attempted to regain her bearings. Jennifer looked to Taylor to answer.

“Victoria!”

“Victoria, are you okay? Do you need medical attention?”

“Nnnnn!” the shivering girl shook her head.

“Miss, can you tell me your brother’s name and his location at this time?”

“His name is Zachary Bishop and he’s at the rental cabin on the other side of the lake. He won’t be able to talk to you until morning though. He took a sleeping pill and went to bed,” Taylor answered the Ranger.

“Zack’s your brother? This other girl, it wouldn’t happen to be Heather Ravers, would it?” Jennifer asked, worried that her friend might have done something to cause this situation.

“No. Heather ran inside to get a phone to call you guys,” Taylor stated.

“JENNIFER! THANK GOD YOU’RE HERE!” Heather shouted as she ran down the steps.

“Heather, can you tell me what is going on here?”

“Vicky fell in the lake and Taylor jumped in and saved her,” Heather covered for her older friend. “I didn’t see anything else.”

“Okay then. It looks like you’re a hero, Ms. Bishop. I know she said she didn’t want medical attention, but I didn’t like her answer. I’m calling an ambulance to take her to the hospital for an eval. I think she may have a concussion in addition to her broken nose. Is your hand okay, Ms. Bishop?” Jennifer asked before reaching for her CB again.

“It’s fine.”

“All right, let’s get this young lady to the hospital. One of you may want to call her folks to let them know what happened.” Jennifer instructed the pair.

What happens the next morning?
