Robbie is Gay and Mostly Tolerant of You

"Uh, good morning," you say, entering the kitchen.

Robbie gives you a side glance, then seems to go out of his way to ignore you as he continues making coffee. That's odd. Usually, Robbie is more friendly than that, even in the morning.

You take a seat at the table, which apparently rubs Robbie the wrong way for some reason, causing him to turn around and glare at you.

"Can you please just go back to your room or something? I'd like to have my coffee alone," he said.

"What? What's wrong?" you ask.

He sighs disapprovingly. "Listen, I didn't want to bring this up right now, but some of the neighbors are talking and ... well, you can't be bringing Rebecca around here anymore, okay? Brad, you know we've been friends for years. When you came out of the closet back in high school and told everyone that you're straight, I had your back, while all your other friends turned on you. But things are different now. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with you being straight, but I've got a good job now and if anyone at work found out that my roommate was an out-and-proud straight man ... well, I have a reputation to uphold. I'm sure you understand."

No, you don't understand. He's making it sound like being straight is like being a pariah. But then you remember seeing all those gay people in the neighborhood. If most people are like that now (including Robbie, apparently!), then a lot of them probably wouldn't tolerate someone like you (just like in the normal world where a lot of straight people don't tolerate gays). What would that even be called? Heterophobia? Man, this is so fucked up!

"Wait a minute. Rebecca? You mean my ex?" you ask.

"You broke up with her? When?" Robbie asks.

"A while ago, man."

"But you brought her back here just a few days ago. I know because I heard her voice when you were making a racket in your room," he said, wincing a bit. It was clear that while he supports your straight lifestyle, he does have some reservations about you being straight, like being **** to listen to you having sex with a woman. "I just didn't think that you two would ever break up. I mean, how many straight girls are out there, you know?"

Apparently not that many, if you're still dating that bitch!
