Violet's smile didn't falter as...

Riley attacks Violet world

Chapter 76 by Yelawolf Yelawolf

Violet's smile didn't falter. If anything, it sharpened, a perfect, crystalline thing. "A patron? Ms. White offers a leash, Riley. She wants an attack dog, not a partner. I'm offering you a throne."

"A throne?" Riley scoffed, a dry, bitter sound that was utterly out of place coming from her. She took a small step closer, emboldened. "You call yourself a queen, but you're just standing here, waiting. Waiting for him to finish fucking some senior slut so you can get your orders. A queen doesn't wait for her king. She rules with him. Or without him."

The words hit their mark. A muscle in Violet's jaw tightened, an almost imperceptible flicker in her composed facade. She had told herself this was delegation. That she was managing the kingdom while the king secured its borders. But hearing it thrown back at her, twisted into a picture of her own impotence, was a cold shock.

"You don't know what you're talking about," Violet said, her voice a low, dangerous purr. "John is a leader among men. He's the number one hero in class. You don't are a slut that doesn't know anything about my and John's relationship."

"Don't I?" Riley pressed, seeing the weakness and driving for it. "I see a king who collects pretty things. He has a sweet little pet in Kimmy. A wild animal he broke in Gina. And now he's adding a shiny new trophy from the senior class. What does that make you, Violet? The smart one? The useful one? Or just the curator of his collection? The one he trusts to dust the shelves while he's out hunting for a new prize?"

Each word was a drop of poison, seeping into the cracks of Violet's carefully constructed confidence. She thought of John's dismissive wave, sending her off to handle logistics while he went to claim Blake. He hadn't discussed it with her. He hadn't sought her strategic input on bringing a senior into their fold. He had simply acted. She was his second-in-command in name only.

Riley saw the doubt bloom in Violet's eyes, a beautiful, destructive flower. She leaned in, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial, venomous whisper. "He'll get bored of you. All that intelligence, all that ambition… it's a novelty to him now. But eventually, you'll be a threat. Or you'll just be predictable. And then he'll replace you, just like he'll replace her. He's a conqueror, Violet. He doesn't build partnerships; he builds harems."

Violet's breath hitched. The worst part, the most infuriating part, was that it rang true. It was the dark, unspoken fear she kept locked away in the deepest part of her heart. Could she serious stay being John queen, when he couldn't even do her the common courtesy of telling her why he's trying to add the senior to their harem.

"But you're right about one thing," Riley continued, her tone shifting, becoming almost... supportive. "You deserve an equal. Someone who values your mind, not just your body. Someone who doesn't see you as a stepping stone or a temporary asset." She let the silence hang, a deliberate, heavy thing. "Imagine someone like Mr. Tatum. He appreciates strategy. He values intellect. Or... someone like Tre."

Violet said softly almost no one could hear her speak. "But he's John number one rival. I can't ... I don't.... I won't...."

The name hung in the air between them, an electric, dangerous spark after Violet little confession of words. "He's being built from the ground up," Riley murmured, her eyes alight with a fervent, almost fanatical light. "He's not a finished product like John. He's clay being molded. And Ms. White is teaching him that power isn't just about brute force. It's about synergy. About loyalty. About building your partner up, not just using them up."

Violet stood frozen, the music, the lights, the entire party fading into a dull roar. The seeds of doubt, planted by John's own actions and so skillfully watered by this unexpected little weasel, were taking root. She saw it now, not a partnership, but a hierarchy. And she was not at the top. She wasn't even the queen. She was just the highest-ranking concubine.

Her gaze, cold and sharp as shattered glass, met Riley's. "What are you proposing?" she asked, her voice a low, even monotone that betrayed none of the storm raging within her.

Riley smiled, a slow, triumphant curve of her lips. "You are a beautiful woman. You don't deserve to be second best. If you join me we will crush him."

"Join you?" Violet let out a short, sharp, utterly humorless laugh. "I am not a dog to be traded from one master to another." Violet couldn't believe she was listening to Riley's words. The temptress is telling half trues riddle in a few snake lies.

"No," Riley agreed, her expression serious. "You're not. You're the general. My partner provides the resources, the vision. I can be your lieutenant, your hidden blade. And you... you lead us. You're the strategist. You know John better than anyone. You know his strengths, his weaknesses. You know how to bring him down."

It was a good plan by Riley and her true partner. The downfall of John would be with Violet no one else. Riley could see the wheels turning inside her head.
