Violet pov
Violet overlook the party, her gaze a cold, analytical sweep over the thronging bodies. Her queen's costume of liquid night was a triumph, a visual declaration of her status, but her mind was not on the adoring glances or the intimidated stares. It was on the second floor, on the closed door, on the silence that had stretched on for too long.

The king had been gone for nearly an hour.
A flicker of something hot and unfamiliar—a vestige of the old Violet, the one who hated waiting for anyone—stirred in her gut. She crushed it. John was not a man to be questioned. He was a force of nature. His plans were layered, his conquests multifaceted. This was part of the game. Still, her fingers, resting on the velvet banister, tightened.
Her gaze drifted past the posturing gladiator and his furious devil, landing on a small, isolated figure near the punch bowl. Riley. The sonic screamer. One of Gina’s team from a few battles ago, a pawn in the initial skirmish. She was nursing a drink, her posture small and defeated, her costume—a cheap, Harley Quinn outfit base on the fake heroes from the comics—doing little to hide her misery.

Interesting. Riley had been sidelined after the training exercise, her confidence shattered by the brutal efficiency of John’s takedown of her team. Ms. White, in her focus on Tre, had discarded her. Gina, now bound to John’s will, had no further use for her old teammate. She was adrift. A piece of loose cargo on a ship that had already set sail.
A plan, sharp and sweet, began to form in Violet’s mind. A test. Not of John, but of her own power. An experiment.
She gave a subtle nod to Gina, who stood like a obsidian gargoyle at the edge of their alcove. The Chimera understood immediately. She detached herself from the shadows, moving with a fluid, menacing grace that cleared a path for her without a word. She approached Riley, not with aggression, but with a predatory certainty.
Riley flinched as Gina appeared beside her, her dark, furred arm brushing against the Harley Quinn's crop top.

"The Queen requests an audience," Gina said, her voice a low, modified growl that sent a shudder through the smaller girl. It wasn't a question.
Riley, cowed and confused, could only nod, allowing herself to be led away from the dubious safety of the punch bowl towards Violet's throne. She stood before the goddess of night, her head bowed, her hands twisting the hem of her cheap costume.
"Riley," Violet purred, her voice a silken caress that held the promise of either pleasure or pain. "I couldn't help but notice you. Watching you. You look… lost."
"I… I'm fine," Riley mumbled, not daring to meet her eyes.
"No, you're not," Violet stated, her tone shifting from caress to scalpel. "You were part of a team. Now you're not. You were with Gina. Now you're not. You're a tool without a craftsman. A weapon with no one to aim it. That must feel… awful."
Riley flinched as if struck. The words were too accurate, too cruel. "It's not like that."
"Isn't it?" Violet countered softly. She rose from her seat, her sheer gown whispering against the floor. She circled Riley, a sleek panther assessing a wounded gazelle. "You have a gift, Riley. A real one. Your power isn't just a loud noise. It's pure, concussive force. It's artistry. And you're letting it waste away because you're waiting for someone to tell you what to do. For a master to give you a leash."
Violet stopped in front of her, her green eyes blazing. "Look at me," she commanded.
Riley slowly lifted her head, her wide, fearful eyes meeting Violet's unwavering gaze.
"You don't need a master," Violet continued, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You need a partner. An equal. Someone who understands your worth. Someone who can help you refine that raw, beautiful power into something truly terrifying." She leaned in closer, her lips almost brushing the smaller girl's ear. "John sees tools. He sees assets. He sees women to be added to a collection. But I… I see potential. I see kindred spirit."
She pulled back, a small, knowing smile playing on her lips. "He's upstairs right now, breaking another pretty thing for his collection. Trying to add a senior to his menagerie. But does he consult me? Does he value my strategic input? No. He plays his game, and he expects me to manage my little corner of his harem."

For the first time, a spark of defiance appeared in Riley's eyes. A flicker of recognition. Riley using this knowledge to throw Violet off balance. Her night with the dark professor still in mind as she lay the ground work of turning Violet into a future pet of the dark professor.
Riley looked up, her posture straightening slightly. The terror in her eyes was still there, but now it was mingled with a calculating, dangerous glimmer. The words weren't just getting through; they were landing on fertile, well-prepared soil.
"Ms. White… she told me something similar," Riley said, her voice barely above a whisper, yet it cut through the party's din with the force of a thrown knife. "She said my power was unique. That I was being wasted. That John… that he just saw a target." She paused, letting the admission hang in the air, a test. "She said a true artist needs a patron who understands their art."
