Chapter 23 by emdubem emdubem

Maze Runner

Right

Heading to the right you contemplate what little you know. The forest is alive, magical and makes the decisions. It decides what you come across and when you'll meet back up with Ixy. How does it make the choices? Is the forest also following chaos, or is it more personal? If it can be altruistic it can also be spiteful. Self serving or helpful. Does it take into consideration karma? You lived in a city so it's not like you spent a lot of time cutting down trees. You grew tomatoes on your balcony, that has to count for something right? Or would vegetarians be considered enemies of plant life?

As you think back about an article you read on grass screaming for help whenever lawns get mowed you come to a fork in the path. The wind whistles and leave blow past you to the left. Ixy told you the wind carries the forests wishes so the choice is obvious. The question is do you listen.

You tap the hilt of your blade, "What are the possible consequences of ignoring the direct orders of your forest guide?"

Baroqua gives a dry response, "When the forest guide is the forest it probably ranges from poison ivy stuffed down your throat to falling off the side of a cliff... if she's feeling nice."

You grimace, "Okay, so I won't make a habit of it."

But maybe at least do it once?
