Chapter 11 by moonblack moonblack

Does anything else happen today?

Relaxation and planning

Nothing of note happens for the rest of the day. Lisa offers to make dinner so that I can do some extra writing and I happily let her. Then we eat together and talk about the offer I got. Neither of us mentions the kiss – I suspect we are both avoiding the topic for now in order to not make things awkward.

After dinner I retreat to my room to do some planning. First I do some searching on the internet to learn more about the guy I will be meeting with. Turns out he's a young man named Brian Morrison, only a few years older than me. He is married to Sarah Morrison, who is an year younger than him. It seems they have been together for a few years, but got married only a few months ago. “Hmm, that gives me some ideas...” I mumble as I pick up my phone and open the app again.

Currently I am at 3/3 targets. Time to change that. I open the Perks tab and quickly find the one I want:
Additional Slot (variable cost) : Unlock an additional target slot. Can be taken multiple times, but the cost increases by 1 point every time this perk is chosen

I buy it twice which costs me all three of my perk points, setting me back to 0. However, as soon as I buy it for the second time I get a new achievement:
Expanding the Net I: Increase your max targets to five. Reward: +1 perk point

Nice! I quickly add Brian Morrison and his wife Sarah Morrison as targets, and get another achievement:
Steady Progress I: Have five or more active targets at the same time. Reward: +1 perk point

Now, what quests should I give them? It might be suspicious if out of the blue they get quests that might benefit the person Brian is meeting with in a couple of days. So first I am going to give them easy quests, then tomorrow I will try to give them quests that will hopefully be to my benefit.

I start with Sarah, and while creating her first quest I discover the option to include the time until next quest at the end of the quest, right under the rewards. Why wasn't this active by default? I have no idea.
Quest Created!
Quest Target: Sarah Morrison
Quest objectives:

  • Have dinner with your husband
  • Wear something sexy to dinner
  • Give your husband a lewd surprise after dinner

Quest rewards:

  • +15 xp
  • One free perk related to the surprise given

Time until next quest: 24 hours

New quest created. Earned 3 xp

Hmm, I wonder what sort of surprise will Brian get? Maybe I will be able to guess based on the perk Sarah will get as reward.

Next is Brian's quest
Quest Created!
Quest Target: Brian Morrison
Quest objectives:

  • Have dinner with your wife
  • Compliment your wife during dinner
  • Spend some time with your wife after dinner

Quest rewards:

  • +15 xp
  • Improved relationship with your wife

Time until next quest: 24 hours

New quest created. Earned 3 xp

The reward is not as interesting as Sarah's, but who cares. The important thing is that the objectives of the two quests compliment each other and should make it easier for them to finish their quests. At least in theory – this is the first time I try this sort of thing, after all.

“Well, this is-” I don't get to finish that thought as I get some new notifications:
Frank Nelson has successfully completed a quest. He has earned the following rewards:
+15 xp
For the next 24 hours physical activities will be less draining than usual
Frank Nelson has leveled up and earned a perk point. He is now level 2 and has 1 perk point.
Frank Nelson has earned an achievement for successfully completing his first quest. He has earned the following reward: +5 xp
A target completed a quest. You have earned 3 xp

Getting the Hang of Things: Have five different people successfully complete their first quest. Reward: +1 perk point

And I am back to 3 perk points. Cool. Now, time to give Frank his second quest. I just up the numbers, as I see no need to change anything else:
Quest Created!
Quest Target: Frank Nelson
Quest objectives:

  • Do at least 7 push-ups
  • Do at least 7 Sit-ups
  • Do at least 7 squats

Quest rewards:

  • +15 xp
  • Exercise I perk: 10% increased effectiveness of all exercises
Time until next quest: 8 hours

New quest created. Earned 3 xp

I check the perk
Exercise I perk: 10% increased effectiveness of all exercises (Hidden effect: Small compulsion to exercise)

Great, that should help with him staying in shape without me giving him new quests every day.

I am once more out of free targets, so all that is left is to wait for everyone to finish their quests. I am especially looking forward to Lisa's...

I check my stats:
Quest Master: Marie
Surname: Fisher
Gender: Female
Age: 24
Level: 4 (18 / 40 xp)
Class: None
Perks: Basic Quests II, Common Quest Rewards I, Additional Slot (x2)
Perk Points: 3

Another 15 xp once all five quest are completed, which will get me up to 33. I will be able to get to level 5 just by giving three people their next quests. But that's for tomorrow. For now I go to sleep.

“Boring...” I complain as I turn off the TV. Repeats of old stuff I have watched, crappy remakes of said old stuff, and some new crap that makes the remakes seem good in comparison. Nothing interesting to watch or listen to.

I let out a sigh as I take a look around the large room, searching for something to help me overcome my boredom. At first I see nothing of note, but then my eyes land on a small photo in an wooden frame. It's a photo of my daughter Lisa, wearing a cute summer dress and smiling at the camera.

“Lisa has not called recently so I guess she's still looking for a job but found nothing...” Not really surprising, I can tell that her mind is not really into it, “...maybe I should give her a call and see how she's doing?” I consider it and quickly dismiss it as I get a better idea, “I should surprise her and visit her in person instead – it's been a while since we talked face to face. We could have lunch or dinner together, and we could invite her cute roommate, Marie... I will stay for the weekend, unless they have plans... Yes, this will work...” I nod to myself as I make my decision and take out my phone to jot down some notes and plan things.

First of all, tomorrow I am going to take care of any and all work-related issues – I have only a few left for this week, so this should not be a problem. Then I will check the weather prediction for the weekend, decide what dress to wear, what clothes and other stuff to bring along, and pack my bags.

The day after tomorrow is Friday, so I will aim to arrive around noon, then spend the rest of Friday, all of Saturday, and most of Sunday with Lisa and Marie. And then I return home on Sunday, some time before dinner.

At least that's the plan for now. It might change once I am there and find out if the two of them have any plans. I could just call them and ask, but that will ruin the surprise.

“Might as well start on tomorrow's work early...” I decide and get up to do just that...

What does tomorrow bring?
