Rachel Planned For This

But that... That's not right. That's not what she's supposed to say.

That's not what I expected. Not what I thought she would...

"Huh?" I ask, my eyes opening slowly as I turn my head to look over at her.

I've never seen Rachel look quite so clearly disdainful and disappointed and in fact even disgusted at the same time. She's practically sneering at me, almost unable to meet my eye.

"You had them both," she says again, "Both of them on you. Both of them wanting you. I mean I get that it's probably new to you, but if you'd just laid back and waited then-"

"You knew?" I say, interrupting her and then following up immediately with something else because that first question doesn't matter at all and wasn't something that I actually wanted to ask, "You planned this, didn't you?"

Rachel smiles, not shy or demure or any bullshit like that. She grins like a complete jackal and practically cackles at me.

"Surprise!"

When I look aghast she keeps on going with things, not willing to just let it settle.

"Oh come on I told you I had something planned. I may not have told you what, but even though you've only known me like a day and a half you have to know that I wasn't going to leave it as something ordinary.

"Two guys. Jake and Blake."

She giggles then.

"Hell their names even rhyme. It's like it's fucking fated to be. The two of them and little old you. You three are a match made in heaven."

I blink twice, slowly, trying to process this. Jake had been obviously picked here for me but I figured Blake was here for her. And even though the though of Blake having his hands all over Rachel filled me with pre-emptive disgust, it certainly made more sense than...

But no. She couldn't.

Blake she had no reason to believe would go for me. There was nothing in the... hell she hadn't even seen the two of us together today, or even interacting at all.

Unless she had... Unless she knew...

What happened today, in amongst the tents. What happened last night, in the darkness of secrecy.

Did Rachel know how far I'd gone? Did she know that Blake was my secret vice?

"You invited both of them here... for me?"

"Oh don't act so surprised," she waves me off, "I mean Jake was obvious, we both know you've got it hot for him and good choice, girl. The hot jock is a classic, maybe a little close to a cliche but I can hardly blame you for that.

"But Blake, now that was something different. I mean he plays at being the hot jock too, but he's here on academic scholarship and isn't here for sports at all. Doesn't even really play them. He's an intriguing choice for you. Will join a frat but probably not one that requires a full and unadulterated commitment. Will get good grades but not hit the deans list. Is fit but not dedicated to it. He's a good choice, but I have to ask why..."

Time to wince again. Time for her to reveal what she saw me do.

Well hell, at least Rachel will probably be proud.

"But truth be told," she goes on, "I knew there was something there between you too right from the trust fall. A spark there between you. Something magnetic. Like love and lust and hate all rolled up into one.

"Like you just can't help yourself, you know? And you can't...
