Questionable loyalty

“A Lust Musker is a creature we created for repopulation.” Explained Kyle. “Once you’ve been sprayed by one, you gain an intense sexual urge which could last for two weeks.”

“Damn, then Alex and I should get one of those skunks as a pet.” Joked Jane. “Our lovemaking would never end!”

“Wait, you two are in love?!” Caroline’s eyes grew as wide as saucers. “That… somehow both surprises me, and at the same time it does not.”

“Hold on!” Interrupted Sarah, a nervous look on her face. “You’re saying that she showed no signs of love towards you until she got skunked?”

“Er, yeah? What’s the problem with that?”

“I hate to say this, but there’s a possibility that she might not be in love with you.”

“W-WHAT?!” Shouted Alex and Jane in unison.

“The musk can somewhat warp one’s mind. While it can’t change one’s sexuality, it can make someone think they love someone to smooth the reproduction process.”

Alex protested. “But I loved her since I was thirteen, I told her that myself yesterday!”

“Be that as it may,” said Sarah, trying to maintain order. “When we were still experimenting with the Lust Muskers, there was a small incident. One of the researchers got herself skunked. She… actually got herself quite attracted to Kyle. So much so, that resorted to anything to sleep with him; ****, lying that I’ve been cheating on him, and one time, attempted ****. The musk can make one do **** things. So there is a possibility that you’re just lying, possibly even to yourself, to sleep with your friend.”

“This is ridiculous!” Yelled Alex undignified. “I know what I feel. Right, Jane?”

Jane stared blankly at Alex, not saying a word.

“…Right?” Repeated Alex, desperation coming from her lips.

“Y-yeah, what she said.” Jane said, not even looking Alex in the eyes.

“Before we continue any of this.” Interjected Caroline. “We should probably get off this island. Sarah, Kyle, do you two know a way?”

“Actually,” interrupted Alex. “We kinda want to stay here.”

“WHAT?!” Yelled Caroline. “Have you seen the creatures here? We won’t survive here!”

“If I may,” said Kyle. “There might be a way. See, we attempted to create an alteration for humans here.”

“Seriously, you tried to play God even with human bodies?” Said Caroline.

Ignoring the statement, Kyle continued. “If it was successful, it could make the human body excrete a pheromone that would make every creature on this island docile. If we could get to our lab and finish the research, we could safely live here without fear of the beasts.”

“That sounds great!” Cheered Alex. “What do you guys think?”
