The truth comes out

"I think you've gone nuts." Caroline said, shaking her head. "Look, I don't care if my nudes are online now. Everyone's probably oogling the latest leaked nude celebrity photo or hottest adult movie star by now! And if not, I'd much rather get leered at by creeps then end up something's lunch! Seriously! The only two things that haven't tried to kill me yet were Shakes here and a talking chicken!"

"A Squawk Box?" Sarah commented, "They're still alive? We made those as a drunken joke. An evolutionary dead end."

"Point is, even if this stupid plan does work out, I'm not staying!" Caroline replied before turning to Sarah and Kyle. "And I bet this pheromone won't work on The Ripper, will it?"

"Well, we did test it on her to see if it work on our hyper aggressive predators, but..."

"I thought so."

"Fine, you can go back, Carol. But Jane and I are staying." Alex said with a smile as she turned to Jane. "Right, My Love?"

Jane didn't look at her, the woman surprisingly quiet.

"Jane?"

"How much of that was real, Lex?" Jane asked, looking up at Alex and looking her in the eyes.

"Jane..."

"How much of what you told me wasn't that skunk musk talking?!" Jane snapped, tears in her eyes as her lip quivered. "Tell me!"

"Jane, please." Alex said, "I do love you. You're my world, my every-"

"I wanna believe that, Alex." Jane said, "You have no freaking idea how much I wanna believe that. Tell me something: You told me you were in love with me, but grew jealous when I was sleeping around. I speak from experience when I say that that sex was way too amazing and professional for me to have been your first time! Was there anyone else before me?"

"... No, of course not!"

"You hesitated!"

"No I didn't!"

"Yes you did! Don't lie to me anymore than you possibly have already! Who was it?!"

"..."

"WHO FREAKING WAS IT, ALEXANDRA ELISE JONES?!"

"It was Barbra Taylors, alright!"

A look of horror and disgust came to Janes face as her eyes widened. "Barbra Taylors? The same Barbra Taylors who used to bully me in high school?"

"I swear, I didn't know she bullied you at the time!" Alex said defensively, "We met at a party back in college, had a drink to much, then I brought you up a few days later when we were sober. I dumped her the second she -"

"You SLEPT with Barbara. freaking! TAYLORS?!" Jane screeched, hot tears running down her face as she stepped back. "But you... And I... Then we... Oh, I think I'm gonna throw up."

"Jane..." Alex said tearfully, reaching out to her friend and lover. "Please, hurting you is the last thing I ever -"

"GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!" Jane snapped, slapping Alex's hand away before running off into the jungle while crying her eyes out, wailing loudly.

"Jane! Stop! Come back!" Alex cried out after her, stopping as she fell to her knees. Dropping to her hands, she broke down sobbing as she pounded the ground with her fist. "No! No! No, no, no, no, no, no, no!"

"Alex..." Caroline said as she kneeled down next to her friend, hugging her tightly. Shakes jumped out of her arms and nuzzled Alex, letting out a mixture between a mewl and a snort.

"No, not that way..." All eyes turned to a frightened Sarah. "All the directions she could have gone, and she goes that way!"

"Why? What's that way?" Caroline asked, still hugging a sobbing Alex.

"I was exploring a year ago when I came across what remained of the old bioengineering lab and housing compound." Sarah explained, "I went to test the radios, and they still worked."

"What?!" Kyle asked in shock, "Why didn't you tell me before, Sarah?! We could have left this hell of an island and be back home by now!"

"I was going to, but... She showed up." Sarah replied, "It... It's her lair, Kyle. Her territory! She staked it out knowing that any survivors she missed would be the equivalent to free delivery! I was lucky to get out of there alive and unseen!"

"The... The Ripper...?" Kyle gasped, looking in the direction where Jane ran off as Sarah nodded. "Oh no."

"What's going on?! What's The Ripper?!" Alex asked, getting nervous.

"It's a dangerous animal that some idiot paid these guys to make!" Caroline explained.

"'Dangerous animal' is putting it lightly!" Kyle stated, "The Ripper is the apex predator of this island, despite being the size of a medium sized dog. She has the body, eyesight and agility of a leopard, the bullet proof hide of a crocodile, venomous fangs and hood of a cobra, the ears and echolocation of a bat, the reflexes of a viper, and the intelligence of the most dangerous predator on the planet: a human! That allows for her to coordinate and plan hunting strategies for her prey!"

Alex gasped in horror as she got to her feet, turning towards the direction that Jane ran off in. "JANE!"

Jane came to a stop at a tree stump, heatbroken and destroyed as she sat down and cried into her hands.

"I am an idiot!" Jane sobbed, "I bet that bitch didn't even love me! Probably thought I was too stupid to not notice she was using me as stress relief!"

Sniffling, Jane looked up and saw something that made her gasp. At the bottom of a hill, there was what looked like a large building. One half looked like some sort of hotel while the other half was windowless.

"Well, if it gets me away from the monster... And whatever animals are around here." Jane said as she got up and made her way down the hill towards the building.

As she did so, she was completely unaware that she was being watched by a pair of red and yellow eyes from the foliage. The owner of the eyes let out a low growl as she waited patiently for Jane to head towards the building.

The Ripper was on the prowl...
