Putting This Behind Me

By the time we get back to the busses and pile on I'm just wanting to put all this behind me. I'm at least glad that Rachel has made sure there is a free seat for me beside her and a good distance from any of the other parties in my twisted tale of woe.

"Have a good tour?" she asks me, for once without a knowing grin.

Well if I can fool her into thinking nothing happened at least that's something.

"I don't want to talk about it," I say, waving her off, "How was hanging out with Eddie?"

Even though it's a convenient way to change the subject, I do genuinely want to know. Hopefully that he managed to reign in his worst instincts and not push her away entirely.

"Good," she says with an indifferent shrug, "He's got a keen eye for photos and really knows his stuff, you know?"

"But is he..." I trail away, entirely at a loss for what to ask here, how to make sure that at least one thing good happened on this trip.

"What are your plans after the bus gets back?" she interrupts me, wiping away my chances.

"A shower," I say quickly because it's the god's honest truth, but then I realize that could probably be a good indicator of what I did with Blake and I try to stammer out a recovery, "I think. I mean I probably should."

She leans closer and bumps my shoulder with hers, "After our little lunch break, I think we'd both be better off for one. And I mean I didn't go nearly as far as you did today."

I blush beet red. Fuck. She knows.

"I mean the cab ride into downtown and then our very big lunch," she says nonchalant, "You've had a very busy day."

I try to laugh it off but it all comes out too stilted. Fuck.

What I really need right now is a nice quiet night alone. For the first time ever, frankly. A nice quiet night where I can get my head right and figure out what the hell it is I'm doing here and what the hell I want out of this. Some time to come up with a plan, to get some space.

To get ahead so I'm acting rather than just reacting.

"But I was actually talking about afterwards," she says as the bus pulls away, "Tonight. And since I know that you're a total homebody I know that you have nothing on your dance card."

"Actually," I start, but she holds up a hand.

"No excuses, Em," she says, "And no delay. Straight from this bus to my dorms and then back downtown for dancing and drinks. I've got big plans for tonight, and you're not going to ruin them by being a stick in the mud."

"Rachel," I protest, but she's not hearing any of it.

"No pleading," she says, "No mercy. Tonight your ass is mine."

Great...

Guess that means she'll be the second person to have it in less than twenty four hours...
