Punishment from on high

Buffy Summers was having a moment of reflection. A chance to rethink her choices. A moment to look back on the last few months and realize that things had gone very wrong indeed since leaving Sunnydale, her friends, her mother and her calling as a Vampire Slayer. She didn't like the situation she found herself in. She didn't like what it was she was doing. She could argue it was all about survival and keeping from living on the street.... but... "How'd the 'date' take it?" Janine asked.

"I invited him to our next party and when Buffy got blotto they had their 'date'." Jeffery sounded so smug.

"Then either do that again or wait for me to work my magic on my little bimbo's crush."

"If this takes much longer we're going to have to talk about the debt you owe me." Jeffery threatened.

"You told me I could pay it back by turning Buffy into a money earner. I'm doing that. She's the one 'making' decisions now. She's the one who 'wants' to do things now. I've got her on the right track, ok, just wait for the ride to reach the end." Janine said crossly. "Give me a month and I'll have her spreading her legs for whoever you want and thinking it's because she wants to."

Buffy didn't make a sound. Buffy didn't move. Buffy raged in her mind. Screaming at the top of her lungs inside her own head. Slowly she backed up. As silent as a ninja Buffy traced her steps back and made her way out of the apartment. With tears in her eyes Buffy ran for the elevator. Looking at her reflection in the mirror doors of the elevator Buffy jammed her hand against the ground floor button.

After her moment or clarity. After he moment to collect herself and think over what exactly it was she had done to herself Buffy didn't know what she was going to do. The only thing she could think of after her ride down in a stupor was that she couldn't go back in there. She had to get out of here. She had to get away. The only question was where was she going to go?
