Princess Matilda

Princess Matilda , known as Milly to her friend's road out of the castle on her horse in the dead of night. She didn’t want to hide in the castle anymore waiting for her father to find a prince for her to marry. She wanted adventure!

Her friends were all the daughters of Lords and Ladies except for Hattie. She was the daughter of the king’s chief of staff, a servant girl. Her father would not approve of his daughter playing with someone low born so they kept their friendship a secret. Hattie told her stories of dragons and other fanciful creatures. Milly’s tutor told her that dragons existed and that they had traits based on the colour of their scale. However, more than that was the concern of boys who would become knights, Lords or Kings. Girls had to learn how to be polite, run a household and raise children.

Being a Princess, Milly didn’t need to bother herself about learning to cook and clean but and did get a better education than most women of her age. She found the education she did revive boring. She wanted to hear stories about dragons and to that she turned to Hattie. While they grew up Hattie would tell her how the green dragons were noble, reds were charismatic and blues social . However, the greens thought too highly of themselves to interact with anything other than the other dragons. Unless you counted eating someone as an interaction. Red Dragons were very good at convincing people, monsters and their own kind but would fly into a fiery range if things did not go their way. The blues were by far the best as they were very sociable. They were kind to everyone but this often lead to them being pushed around and manipulated. There were other colours with other traits but Hattie did not know them.

As Milly got older, she insured that Hattie became her head chambermaid. Milly would use the guise of royal visits to go out on adventures to different parts of the kingdom. Bringing Hattie with her of course. They continued to be friends until one day her farther announced she would be married. Coincidently the news came to Hattie that a strange and rare dragon had been sighted in the mountains.

Now we come to the part that started this story, with the princess riding out in the dead of night. She met up with Hattie outside of the castle walls and went in search of the dragon. They road on though the night and into the next day. By mid-afternoon, they had reached the mountains and needed to make camp. Milly had learned how to set up a tent and light a fire on previous adventures along with a few other non-lady-like things. They tied up the horses and Hattie began to make dinner.

They had their dinner and were just about to go to sleep when the horses started acting up. “I’ll go check on them , Your highness.” Hattie remarked. Despite being best friends for years she still referred to the princess respectfully.
