She tags along

“Well,” Nancy said, struggling a little to contain a grin and keep a straight face as she set down her glass, “I guess if you don’t have your big-girl-pants with you tonight and need someone to hold your hand as you take this huge leap of faith… I really can’t leave you hanging there, can I?!”

Syd pulled a face, snorting. “Fuck you, bitch!” she huffed, then shook her head before downing the rest of her beer, which was still more than half her glass. “Also: thank you! I really appreciate the support. I hear Dustin has a really comfy couch too.”

“Great,” Nancy rolled her eyes as the two women left the booth, took their jackets and headed for the exit. “So I will have a great place to crash once the two of you get it on in the bedroom… If you dare to go there without me, that is!”

Syd simply gave her a grin, then shrugged before pushing the door open and holding it for her partner, who headed straight for her car. “We’re taking the Camaro though! So I can get out of there if things turn freaky fast!”

The black woman smirked and followed, sliding into the passenger seat while shooting a message to Dustin, informing her lover that they were on their way.

Dustin lived in a decent, more quiet part of the city, which turned out to be a twenty-minute drive from the bar. While it wasn’t the suburbs, the buildings looked well-kept and the streets were clean, so once Nancy had found a parking space, she had no second thoughts about leaving the polished, black car alone.

The two women headed to the building where Dustin’s apartment was supposed to be and made their way up the stairs to the third floor. Nancy noticed that her partner was getting increasingly fidgety, a fact that amused her as she had seen her charge through the line of fire without a second thought during shootouts on multiple occasions.

“You want me to go first?” she teased as they reached their destination, a wide grin on her face.

“Shut up!” Syd grumbled and pressed the buzzer, her eyes narrowed and shoulders tense.

Nancy chuckled, then cleared her throat and straightened her face as the light on the other side of the door turned on and footfalls approached. The door opened and a muscular man in his mid to late thirties opened the door. Dressed in fashionably worn-out jeans and a tight-fitting, black shirt with short, brown hair and a trimmed beard, he really was quite attractive, Nancy had to admit, and even from three feet away she could just tell that he smelled nice. As he opened the door he first glanced at her with a smile before his eyes moved to Syd.

“Hey there!” he greeted her and Nancy was treated to a show as he leaned in to kiss Syd deeply before he turned towards her. “And you brought company!”

“Hi!” Nancy said, suddenly feeling awkward as she extended her hand, flustered by the display of affection she had just witnessed. “I’m Nancy! I heard you guys were watching a movie, so I just had to tag along!”

If Dustin was irritated by her presence, his smile didn’t hint at it at all. On the contrary, Nancy thought for a moment like she saw a strange spark in his eyes as he shook her hand, his gaze dropping to her cleavage for a second. “It’s a pleasure, Nancy! Glad you could make it! I'm Dustin!”

He turned around, gesturing for the women to follow. “Come on in, girls! Everything is already set up!”

Nancy shot Syd a look from the side, wondering whether she had just imagined the expression in his eyes, but her partner seemed completely oblivious, heading happily inside. The nervousness seemed to have left.

“Let’s see how this goes then!” the Latina mumbled to herself as she followed, a suspicious feeling in her gut.
