Chapter 9 by doppledon doppledon

Does Aurora mind you sticking around her for a while?

"I would like that very much."

I would like that very much Edward Fitzroy. Shivers run up your spine as she says your full name with a sultry tone. You can't help but smile at her and stare. After several moments of you both staring at each other you quickly clear your throat and thank Aurora for being honest.

"I'll start cooking breakfast" you say as you start preparing to cook the meal. Aurora seems content to watch you cook her meal in silence. Today's menu is a large amount of sliced up salted ham you had been saving, some biscuits you make with some water and lard, and a rather bitter crushed up nut in a kettle that seems to help you wake in the mornings.

"Enjoy" you say as you divvy up the food with most of it going to Aurora. Surprisingly Aurora is very dainty about eating the food you prepared. Taking small bites, for her, and you both finish eating at about the same time.

I enjoyed that quite a bit. The bits of pig were especially good. If I'd have known all I needed to do to find someone to cook for me was to fight a random human I'd have done this ages ago. You let out a snort and Aurora's deep laugh causes you to laugh as well.

"Well I'm not the best cook out there, but when all you have to rely on sometimes is the camp cook you tend to learn how to cook on your own if you want any sort of variety."

Camp Cook? What is that? Aurora asks.

"Oh right...uh...when I am contracted out to militias or armies there is always at least one person there whose only job is to cook for everyone else, and since the food is provided by whoever is running the show the food tends to be bland and repetitive to keep costs down" you explain.

You humans are very strange creatures Aurora flatly states.

"Oh I am well aware of that" you chuckle.

So what is the drink that you didn't offer me she snorts.

"Ha, well that is a bit of an acquired taste. I got it down south somewhere. It helps me wake up in the mornings. If you want to try it I'll give you a cup or so, but it is hot and fairly bitter by itself. I ran out of sugar or else I'd put some in."

I wouldn't mind trying, and don't worry about how hot it is as I have a bit of a natural resistance to heat. You shrug your shoulders and motion her closer. As she cranes her neck to accept the liquid you pour out a cup and hover the cup over her mouth.

"Just remember, it is very bitter so if you spit it out don't do it in my face" and you upend the cup. Aurora initially has no reaction to it until she begins to swish it around in her mouth. She immediately recoils her head from you.

Ugggh you can see her swallow it down. That is disgustingly bitter. You say you can get used to this?

"Well yah...mostly" you reply. "Like I said sugar will help it a lot, but I ran out a week ago or so."

This sugar stuff helps with the bitterness then?

"That and milk if you have it handy which is pretty rare" you shrug your shoulders.

I know what milk is, but I would like to try this sugar.

"Be careful, sugar can give you a sweet tooth...er...that is to say you might like it a lot. It's sweet like fruit" you explain.

Well I'll definitely have to try it now.

"Next town I visit I'll make sure to get some. Speaking of, I won't be able to stay out here forever with you and you can't go into towns with me without having the entire town trying to get your hide...literally" you say awkwardly chuckling at your statement.

"I don't want you to be put in danger by following me around. Plus the whole glowing eyes thing, so do you have any ideas on how we can be around each other" you ask.

Oh I have a solution to all of that. Close your eyes Edward Fitzroy she purrs.

Do you close your eyes?
