Chapter 8 by comfygamer

Does he find anything?

A place to rest

On his search Gob came across several caves, but they were already claimed and inhabited by wolves or bears. On his own he wasn't nearly strong enough to contest with such beasts he thought. However he was able to find a recently abandoned mine, but to Gob it just seemed like a weird cave. If he knew it was a mine, the expected encounter with people would be seen as suicidal as trying to take on the wolves or bears. Instead he was blissfully ignorant and lucky.

Having found a place to relax and hide in at night, along with a source of fresh water, Gob was well on his way to surviving in his new environment. Food would still be a worry, but that would need to be a concern for tomorrow. The sun was setting and light was fading. Now was not the time to go foraging or hunting.

Gob walked deeper into the mine to lay down for the night out of sight. The cold stone floor wasn't comfortable, but he had nothing to compare it too and consequently had no complaints. Adjusting to the needs of living versus simply being when he was in the dungeon was a welcome change. He was enjoying being in control of his actions and thoughts. As Gob closed his eyes and drifted to sleep, he was thankful for being taken out of the dungeon.

As he snoozed through the night, the little goblin had a hazy dream. The details were fuzzy and it was like he was floating above watching a scene unfold before him. It appeared to be a group of monsters and people of the land working together. Something about the environment vaguely reminded him of the dungeon he came from, but it was certainly something different. Such was clearly evident by the different defenders clearly more powerful than him and his former cohorts.

The invading group and the monsters of the dungeon devastated the fighting grounds as they attacked each other and flung their spells. Bodies flew through the air blown away by the **** shows of ****. Others got charred to cinders or hacked into bits. A thought crossed the sleeping goblin's mind as he watched the clashing powerhouses, 'How many dungeons have these people gone through to attain such strength?'

After the dust had settled and the invaders proved victorious, one of the magic users cloaked in a blue robe raised their staff in celebration. As they did so, Gob's point of view floated down towards them and stopped to settle in the stranger. For the first time in his dream he blinked and he actually had some control over what he was looking at. Then it dawned on him. His vision hadn't just simply moved to the conqueror of the dungeon, but that he had become him.

Gob blinked once more, but this time in the waking world. There was rumbling hunger within his belly that stirred him awake. He stood to his feet ready to find some grub. His dream was quickly forgotten as he set out into the forest.

What's the plan for food?
