Chapter 9 by comfygamer
What's the plan for food?
Ambush
Gob didn't really know where to look for food. But from his conversation with the mage he knew some living things ate others, and he saw a deer drinking at the river before. He figured the deer or some other animals would show up to drink from the river. So it seemed like a good place to hunt at.
Once at the river Gob thought about and questioned whether he would be able to chase down whatever he would prey upon. He was faster than the mage he ran away from, but chasing down an animal didn't seem like an easy task. He sat down by the river and contemplated what could help him take down something to eat.
The first thing that came to mind was to fight with superior numbers. But that was merely instinct speaking and he was currently all alone without any friends or allies to assist him. Acquiring allies was something he wanted to accomplish eventually. At the moment he had no idea as to how to go about such. He couldn't simply go to the dungeon to recruit more goblin's. For one he didn't know where it was and secondly there was no telling how the monsters would react to him. Currently, he was alone and would need to rely on his own strength.
The next idea that came to mind, coming again from his goblin instincts, was to take advantage of the weak, ****, and/or injured. The latter idea seemed like it had merit to go on. He hoped that animals could be more **** and less aware while drinking from the river. Then a well placed mana attack could injure his prey. With any luck a shot could hamstring an unlucky critter and leave a trail of blood to aid tracking it down.
Although luck alone was unlikely to work. Gob knew he would need to practice with his new attack and aiming before trying to ambush something. There was no telling how many chances he would get with a live target, so he decided to fire his mana attack at one of the many trees until he felt confident in his new ability.
It didn't take long or many shots to deplete Gob's mana reserves leaving him shooting a blank. He grumbled and tried to fire another shot only to come up empty. He was after all only a grunt with a spear before. An unremarkable trash mob that was not even originally made to utilize magic. Remembering the menu he pulled it up to look at his mana. His regen was too slow to notice simply by watching the mana bar, and the numbers on it meant nothing to him. In many ways there was still much for him to learn. With a wave the menu disappeared.
Without any mana to practice with or even attempt an ambush, Gob tried to think of something productive to do while waiting on it to regenerate. As he pondered the thought, the sound of fighting erupted in the distance and soon after a shrieking cry for help.
How does he respond?
