Chapter 6 by Artican Artican

What's next?

Gambit meets with the doctor.

Remy was relieved to be leaving his quarters to meet up with Dazzler and the therapist. He had spent the last half hour staring at the hole in the wall that Sabertooth and Logan made earlier. Repair crews were already buzzing around, assessing the workload. He let them be and wandered off so that they wouldn’t prod him with questions.

The Cajun X-man headed out to the location Dazzler had given him. It was in one of the more isolated parts of Utopia, in a mostly empty building that may have been used as a laboratory in its previous incarnation. It seemed like a ghost town with empty rooms gathering dust. Gambit wandered the empty hallways as he bided his time until the meeting. His mind was not on the scenery, but on the dark entity hidden away inside him. If the psychologist couldn’t help him, what could he do? He had very little options here. Aside from telling his friend that he was harboring an evil villain Inside him, Remy could only think of running. At least if he ran, he might get some distance between **** and his friends.

Gambit pulled his thoughts away from his worries to check a clock on the wall. It was almost the time of his appointment. It didn’t take long for him to find the office the therapist was supposed to be at. He knocked on the door. The door opened and he was surprised by who was waiting behind it.

“Alison?” Remy uttered with raised eyebrows.

Dazzler flashed a smile as she let him in. “I just wanted to make sure you found the right place,” she explained. “It can be like a maze out here.”

“Ah have to admit, ah got turned around a couple of places on mah way ovah,” Gambit replied, stepping into the room. This resembles a waiting room of a typical doctor’s office with chairs and tables and even magazines to rifle through. “Ah see the doctah’s settled inta dis spot quite nicely…” he noted.

“She’s been working here for quite some time,” Dazzler agreed. “I’ll let her know you’re here.”

Dazzler went into one of the offices and spoke inaudibly with the person inside. A moment later she returned. “The doctor will see you now,” she grinned, enjoying playing receptionist.

“Playing doctah wit you kind of makes me feel like doing another sort ‘o examination, if you now what ah mean…” Remy smirked at the blond.

Alison grinned back, lowered her head and murmured, “See? This is already helping with your demeanor.” She wiggled her finger back and forth, then turned around, waving her hips flirtatiously for him to follow.

Gambit couldn’t help but admire the fellow mutant’s curves and how they filled out that spandex. He followed his friend into the doctor’s office like a dog sniffing out a bone. Inside the office was a well kept room with filled bookshelves and a work table topped with several monitors. Behind the screen was a slender young woman with long sleek black hair. She stood up as they entered and revealed her tall, statuesque physique.

“Mr. LeBeau, I presume,” the doctor greeted.

“And you must be de doctah dat Alison speaks so highly of,” Remy replied, not able to hide his wandering gaze over the full bodied female specimen before him. “Ahm not usually one to seek help pour mon tête, but if Ally had told me you looked like dis…” he shook his head and whistled, “Well, ah woulda come alot soonah!”

The psychologist gave a slight smirk. “Dr. Angela Dovercourt at your service,” she introduced herself, offering her hand to the X-man.

“Charmed, ahm sure…” Remy replied, taking the hand and kissing it.

“Ms. Blaire told me about your issues,” Dovercourt said as she circled back to her desk, jumping right into business. She sat down and took out a pen, “But I’d like to hear your story first hand.”

Gambit nodded, he expected he would have to open himself up all over again for the doctor. Alison took her leave and Remy found a lounge chair to sit on. He didn’t want to lay back on it like you would see in a movie where the main character is seeing a shrink, so he sat up on the edge and relayed his story.

Dr. Dovercourt listened to his woes with interest, leaning forward and nodding at each part. She jotted down the occasional notes and interjected a question at one or two points, but mostly let him speak uninterrupted. Finally, Remy came to his conclusion, “... and dat is why ah am here wit you… to get help…”

The doctor put her pen down and rested her chin under her hands, quietly looking over Gambit long enough for him to start feeling self conscious. Then, Dovercourt asked, “You mentioned trouble sleeping. Have you been dreaming? Can you recall any of those dreams?”

Gambit became sheepish, not wanting to reveal the dream he had in the morning. He rubbed the back of his neck and replied, “Ah can’t quite recall…”

The doctor didn’t buy it. She gave him a reassuring look and told him, “We’re in a safe space, what you reveal to me does not go beyond that door.”

With a heavy sigh, Gambit let the doctor know about what he experienced at the beginning of the day. He spoke about the sex with Rogue and the feling of being watched, but left out the details about ****. He felt it would require more explaining anyhow.

“Quite a lurid dream…” Dovercourt assessed at the end of it. Remy didn’t want to look into her eyes to see how she really felt about his innermost desires. “But I feel like it is your mind trying to tell you something… tell me more about this dark figure that interrupted your moment with Rogue. Was it someone from your past?”

Gambit thought about how to respond. He said, “More like a part o’ me from da past…”

“A past self that you feel is coming back to haunt you?”

Gambit nodded, “Yeah, sumting like dat.”

“Well, what I have found helpful is to confront your past self and understand why it holds you down,” Dovercourt concluded.

“Confront it? ‘Ow do you propose ah do dat?” Gambit asked, perplexed.

“Well,” the doctor said, “Normally this would require years of therapy and deep soul searching to understand your inner demons.” Gambit let out another sigh. He didn’t have years to deal with this. He needed to put **** away for good before he did some serious harm to his friends. The doctor read this on his face and gave him a reassuring smile. “There is another option.”

Remy looked up to the doctor with hope in his eyes.

“It may be unconventional, but it has a high success rate in my treatments,” Dovercourt divulged.

“Ali did mention you were controversial, doc,” Remy noted.

“It’s true, my methods aren’t accepted by everyone, but you cannot argue with their results,” the doctor responded, proudly.

“Well, what ah need is a quick and final resolution, doc, what do you need me to do?”

What does the doctor have Gambit do?
