Decorations

“They’re just decorations,” you say, not wanting to explain what a DVD is. Plus how can you show them without a tv or even electricity.

“Decorations?” the gnomes seem skeptical. “Why are they shiny? And some of these aren’t very pretty,” he grabs a DVD showing you the disc. It is just a plain white top with the name of the movie written on it.

“Um, well you know. Art is weird, some people like the simplicity. But yea you just keep the cases on a shelf to look at. Some people even get little books that you can slide the disc into and look at a bunch at once,” you just keep lying.

“So what does this mark mean where it says DVD on this one, but then this case here says Blu-ray?” the gnomes pull up two cases for the same movie.

“Um, well you see,” you try to think of a reasonable answer, and then it strikes you. You grab the cases and pop them open taking the discs out. You show the bottom of the discs to the gnomes. “See the DVD has a silvery bottom, but a blu-ray has a blue bottom.”

“Hmm, humans have become weirder since last time,” the gnome says putting the DVDs away.

“Next item is this,” a new gnome drags a bicycle in through the gate. “It has wheels so we think it’s a vehicle of some kind but it doesn’t even stand up on its own.”
