Back to the grindstone

With new mission at hand, Marius went about his prep work. He didn’t have time to unwind, so all he really had to do was just gather some traveling provisions. It was going to take possibly a day or two of travel to get to St Marmelise. He was going to have to go slower than his usual travel pace due to having to arrive after the messenger, so he was going to stretch it out to a week. Hopefully the messenger would still get there the day if or the day after this paladin arrived to the manor for her assignment.

After getting his provisions, he said goodbye to those he cared to give it to, filed in his inquiries, and gathered what knowledge he could of the situation to read as he traveled.

“Might as well turn this trip into my recovery period...”

For his inquiry, he requested the services of two individuals. One was the Dwarf runesmith known as Graumil. He apparently owed some favors to the Grand Inquisitor from back during her adventurer days and pays it off by working for her Rune Blades. The other was a skilled healer from one of the minor gods, specifically one of knowledge as she is also an accomplished surgeon.

He remembered the reactions his bones had when he overdid the strength enhancement runes during his fight with the Vampire. He had come up with an idea to counteract that and needed their help. But it seems he’ll have to wait a bit longer to try out this experiment.

And from what he had gathered about these “sin-tax-takers”, these Paladins that this Claudia is the foundation for...he wasn’t able to really make an opinion about it. A sect of law enforcers all about using their bodies to allow sinners to repent? But still have some sort of martial presence? Marius wasn’t quite sure he got the gimmick or if it was something he was interested in. He was going to need some time to wrap his mind around this.

And he was going to have a long week of travel and then his time with Claudia to figure this all out. Just what did the gods and his mistress get him into?
