Chapter 73

What happens on your date?
A heart-seeking missile
Paige was told, by production, to go to the table with Brad despite wanting desperately to go talk to her half-sister. Evelyn acknowledges Paige with a slight wave and nods at her, and Paige shoots her an angry juvenile look which Evelyn returns with a bit of embarrassment. You were told as well to go to your own table and start the date, the crew behind you pressing you to start and stick to the schedule.
The half-sister of Paige was every bit as striking as her older sister. Though her freckles were much more pronounced making her appear almost leopard-like in the sunlight which you suspect was due to a much lighter touch on the make-up. She had the same long slender legs that dangled past the legs of round patio table and the same, maybe even heftier, curvy body her sister possessed. Her nose was a button shape compared to Paige’s sharp one. Her red hair had an auburn fade to it and she, Evelyn, had it in a ponytail that hung over her collar and nestled to the right of her deep alluring cleavage. Evelyn's eyes were tinted pale almost brownish green instead of Paige’s vibrant green, and there was one noticeable difference which sent you kind of crazy - she was wearing thick-rimmed ebony glasses.
Evelyn gets up, and you two embrace and hug for a short while and make light greetings of hello, and both take your seats. She taps the table with her hands in anticipation and nervous energy as you pull out a chair and sit in front of her. A waiter comes by and brings some tapas and drinks for you both, sparkling mandarin-flavored water for her and a local beer for you.
“So you must be Evelyn. It’s great to finally meet you.” You say leaning back in your chair. Your eyes, due to old habits, find it hard to meets hers, but you try to refocus and meet her eyes. It wasn’t that difficult. Weeks ago, it seemed like, you would have found it hard to maintain eye contact with such a stunner. Now, you met her eyes with ease and she seems to brighten with a soft smile that envelopes you in tenderness.
“That should be my line, dude,” Evelyn says. Unlike her sister, she had a casual easiness to her. Where Paige’s voice was low and sultry like that of a voiceover for a late-night call line, Evelyn had a much higher tenor to her voice, and she had a valley-girl accent and her body seemed to drift every which way in her seat like a mist that pours out. “I was, like, so excited when they called me and told me I was going on this island. I had this huge, huge crush on you, oh gosh.”
Evelyn's freckled-face turns pink in her cheeks at the confessions and then she looks away shyly and back at you to gauge your response, it was like she had a child-like crush on you.
Was she a plant? She came off strong, just like Mona. Your next message that flickers in the corner of your vision eases your doubts.
12:19 – Evelyn’s affection increased by 5 – You are much hotter in person to Evelyn
So she found you attractive. Interesting. Somehow… you weren’t shocked, just contemplative. Though her admission was still forward and flattered you and sent tiny butterflies into your stomach.
Keep a hold of yourself.
“Really? Umm… thanks?”
“Yeah… I liked you from the start. Those nerves at episode one were so cute. I felt so bad for you…” Evelyn says, leaning forward. It seemed she was a fan of you and the show, maybe a genuine one.
All the while you couldn’t help but overhear Paige’s very obnoxious conversation with Brad interrupt your responses.
“No, I’m very much single. I’m definitely playing the field. Nah, Matt and I are totally not a thing. Ha Ha Ha.” Snippets from Paige which she nearly yells from her table. Every so often, you can hear her laugh obnoxiously at one of Brad’s jokes or rather any remarks he makes.
You put your mind back at the matter at hand.
“So what do you, Evelyn? Are you in school? I feel shorthanded here since you already know me.” You ask sipping on some beer.
“I’m going to Yale this autumn. Besides that, I stream video games and do a lot of Let’s Play on youtube,” Evelyn says.
You nearly spat out your beer. “You play video games? Like what’s your favorite?”
“Hmm… I mean, that’s like asking me what’s my favorite food. It just depends. Like… I like The Sims series, and I’ve been playing a lot of Overwatch and Minecraft lately.” Evelyn says, putting an olive in her mouth.
You gawk at her, nearly drooling. She was a unicorn. She was a golden unicorn for you. Somehow the producers sent in someone who was exactly like Paige, albeit a bit younger but enjoyed the same hobbies you did. They did their homework. Even though Mona was someone you could fall for, Mona was a cluster bomb. Evelyn was a smart computer-guided missile directly aimed at your heart.
“What else do you enjoy?” You ask, almost afraid of the answer.
“I really like anime and cosplay. I don’t know if I like cosplaying though cause a lot of the guys are kinda weird and can be creepy, but like I love making the costumes and doing the makeup for it. The last Gaming Expo, I made this Triss (Witcher series) costume that was really cute, and I really wish I could show you it… Umm… are you okay?”
A tear fell out of one of your eyes and trace down your cheeks, and Evelyn grabs her napkin and reaches over towards you and wipes it away with concern.
“No… I’m fine… umm, something caught in my eye,” You cough and recover and try to change the subject so you wouldn’t get down on one knee and propose to her. Your coolness was all but gone and you find yourself struggling. “So… sorry I have to ask but are you related to Paige? It just seems like Paige knows you.”
Evelyn turns her head to stare at Paige, who is downing a couple of vodka shots and laughing almost maniacally and then nods.
“She’s my sister,” Evelyn says somberly. “I was worried about coming on here cause I know how she’ll think of it.”
“And why is that?” You ask, eating some marinated anchovies and sipping on more beer to cool yourself off.
“We don’t see each other too often, and usually, I’m the one trying to get to know her,” Evelyn says sadly. “It’s, like, awkward… I think she thinks I’m some parasite or stalker, but I just want to know her, you know?”
You nod. Paige can be childish and difficult at times. Despite that, you loved her for it.
“I hate to ask but between you and me… did you come here for her or for yourself?” You ask.
“I don’t think there was one reason in particular. Followers, more subscribers to my channel, finding a cute guy, my sister… It was also summer so… I wanted to experience something fun before I went to college,” Evelyn says.
You suppose you didn’t know exactly what you were here for either until you found out.
“How are things between you and my sister?” Evelyn asks and then adds, “And the other girls. Was I barking up the wrong tree?”
You sigh, “Complicated. But you probably are barking up the wrong tree.”
“Are you interested in me?” Evelyn asks outright. “Like… am I your type? Sorry for being so like… out there, but I don’t want to waste my time.”
You scrunch your face and answer, “I’ll get in trouble if I answer that honestly.”
12:23 – Evelyn’s affection increased by 5 – She thinks there is a chance
“So you wouldn’t mind if I just continued flirting with you?” Evelyn asks, her hands going through her hair and her body leaning even closer so you can smell the orchard scent of her aura.
In the back of your mind, the Relationship Party menu flashes brightly. No. You couldn’t. Another one? You could somehow justify two girls but now with Mona and Evelyn. There was no way of going back. You were being flat-out greedy. But… how often are you going to get a girl this hot who shares your interests?
“We’re all here to find the right one,” You say, looking regretfully at the table and thinking of Paige. “You do what you gotta do, and I’ll do what I gotta do.”
Evelyn surprises you by leaning forward and planting a small kiss on you, barely grazing your lips. She smiles seductively and says, “I have a lot of catching up to do then.”
12:24 – Evelyn’s affection and love increased by 10 – She's falling
