A weak attempt to pass the Bechdel test and Background Video 3

Night came to the villa, and you lie on your bed. Both Paige and Jenna were missing from their beds, Paige from yours and Jenna from Tom’s. You had an urge to go visit Paige downstairs, where she was probably sleeping on the sofa. Paige said as much to Jenna that you should have gone after her.

A notification pops in your vision, interrupting you arguing with yourself whether or not to go, and you decide to check it out.

An overtop view shows Jenna lying on one sofa next to Paige on another couch at a 90-degree angle. They both are smiling and appear to be in mid-conversation.

“So, like you were never Olympic level?” Jenna asks.

“I did it mostly for fun. My dad and some sponsors paid for the whole thing, so it was an excuse to hit the slopes. I got bronze once, but man… some of those women were really too hardcore for me. It sucks cause I don’t live in Colorado or BC where I could snowboard and practice constantly,” Paige says, smiling and recalling a vivid memory.

“Have you been to Breckenridge?” Jenna asks. “I went there once to ski with my family once.”

“Breckenridge, Aspen, Cortina, Whistler... Yeah… I've been to a lot places. It was so much fun just traveling around when I was doing it. Like... I only got sponsors cause of my looks... I don’t think I was that great, but traveling to events was super fun. You and I gotta snowboard sometime together.”

“I only tried skiing, but I always wanted to try snowboarding... I heard it was harder,” Jenna says.

“You’ll fall on your butt a lot more, but it’s definitely more fun once you learn.”

Jenna and Paige both idly stare at each other and smile fondly at one another.

"I'll teach you, Jenna. The sun's great here and all but we should definitely hit the mountains together after this is all over. Just us two," Paige suggests.

Jenna holds out her pinky, “Whatever happens on this island, promise me we’ll do that after we leave this place.”

Paige smiles and holds out hers, “Whatever happens.”

That was nice to watch. You suppose you shouldn't interrupt their gal-pal time together and inject yourself between them right now. You decide to stay in your bed. Their lives shouldn't have to revolve around you and seeing Paige and Jenna happy and on good terms made you happy.

Not being able to sleep, you determine it would be good to view the Background Video to pass the time in bed. You unlock it, and you were left with 60 Affection points.

The video opens in a school. It looks to be a standard public school, and two girls are talking in the corner of a classroom. A Valley-type girl in her late teens with a noticeable tan and her platinum blonde hair in a ponytail was standing over Jenna who was at her desk cowering before her.

“I can’t fucking believe it, Jenna.” The girl standing over Jenna said in a high-pitch nasally voice which irritated you immediately.

“Riley... we were both drunk, and he kissed me,” Jenna explained.

“You’re always fucking doing this, Jenna. Anytime I get a boyfriend, you have to shove your face in him and steal him from me.”

“I… I didn’t mean to. He was the one who kissed me. He was following me the entire night,” Jenna explained.

“You have a fucking boyfriend, you slut. I can’t FUCKING even right now,” Riley said. “Toby told me you were the one that kissed him!”

“We’ve been best friends forever, Riley… why would you believe him over me?”

“Because you’ve been doing this my entire life, Jenna. Every single guy I like you always try to steal them. They always just use me to get to you,” Riley snapped, her hands on her hips and a look of annoyance plastered over her.

“I’ve… Riley… I never flirted with any of your boyfriends, and I’ve always tried to avoid your boyfriends, but... what happened at the party was just an accident, and Toby started it.”

“Whatever. I’m fucking done with you, Jenna. Go find some other friend to steal their guy... fucking cheating bitch,” Riley yelled a bit overdramatically and stormed away.

“Riley…” Jenna said desperately and then buries her face in her palms, her face reddened with embarrassment and frustration.

The video then cuts to a large public bathroom. There are two flight attendants in full uniform looking at themselves in the mirror and making some adjustments. One begins to speak to the other.

“So, who are these guys?” An Asian girl in her mid-20s asked.

“Cream of the crop. A couple of doctors, a lawyer, and some guys from Sterling Cooper. You aren’t young forever, Chrissy, gotta get that ring and lock down a good man,” Another woman in her late 20s said. She was over made-up and had noticeably dyed red hair, the color of bright cherries.

“Who else did you invite?” Chrissy asked.

“Lauren and Jonelle.” The redhead answered.

“You didn’t invite Jenna, did you?”

“Jesus, fuck no. I can’t have a competition like that on our group date. Honestly, I can’t stand the bitch. She seems so arrogant. ANNDD... I read on Facebook that she’s a total fucking slut and manstealer… like yuck.”

“I don’t want to say this to her face, but she has that weird fake vibe about her. She is always trying to act nice, but you can just tell she’s the type of girl that would sleep with any guy just to be liked,” Chrissy said.

“Totally. Like I have to request working with someone else every time I’m paired up with her. She’s constantly flirting with the passengers and the pilots, it’s fucking annoying how men drool over her.”

“You ready?”

“Just about,” The redhead says and puts the finishing touches on her eyelashes. The two smile at each other and leave the bathroom.

A couple of minutes later, you see Jenna awkwardly walk out of one of the bathroom stalls with a frown on her flushed face. She goes to the bathroom mirror and washes her hand and splashes some water on her face. You can see Jenna just stare in the mirror for a long time, talk to herself for a bit and then put on a smile and walk out.

The video ends there, and you put away your phone.

When you came into this island and saw Jenna and Paige, you thought because they were beautiful, their lives were invariably different from yours. But there is something about reality TV that draws in incomplete people. Maybe you were here for a reason. The AMA has showed you this video for a reason but how could you help Jenna and Paige if you were so torn up and incomplete yourself?

Did they need your help? Jenna was already well on her way from making a true friend in Paige. You initially thought the Relationship Party Menu would be purely self-centered but it helped bring Jenna closer to Paige and gave Jenna something she desired that had nothing to do with you.

You need more time. More time with both. Even if you can't have both, you want to make sure they are both happy in the end. Even if that was a hopeless dream. Last thoughts before you went to sleep.
