Paige is much cooler than you expected

You leave the gym and approach Paige and sit down on a beanie by the deck of the pool next to Paige, who is also on her own beanie. You smile and say, “Hey.”

“Hey. I didn’t get a chance to spend time with you yet,” Paige says, smiling. You can tell she’s almost looking past you to where Tom and Jenna were sitting.

“Yeah, well it’s early days. So can I ask you if you and Tom are close?” You say getting comfortable on the chair.

“Close? It’s only been a day,” Paige says, still smiling and looking past you. She brushes away her long red hair and sighs and says, “People are just putting it on way too heavy right now. Tom wants me to be clear about what I want already.”

“Oh. And you don’t want Tom now? You were pretty enamored by him at the start.” You ask her.

“It’s early. I need time. That’s what I told him,” Paige says.

You nodded understandingly and added, “You seemed pretty interested in Jamie when he came in. Is he your type?”

“What tall, blonde and handsome? I think he’s everyone's type,” Paige says, laughing. “Plus, he’s a surfer. I think that’s sexy. That accent drives me crazy too.”

It was clear to you that Paige had already moved on from Tom towards Jamie despite what she says. She's just waiting for a good moment to break it to Tom.

“What would you do if Jamie is really interested in Liz?” You ask her.

“Liz? Do you think he’d was interested in her? Didn’t seem like it,” Paige says and wonders.

“It’s possible. She is a pretty girl, you know. Just a hypothetical,” You ask.

“I don’t know. I’m usually a woman who gets what I want,” Paige says cooly in a seductive smile. You can see why, as that look gives a twinge in your pants.

“What about you, Matt? Who are you into?” Paige asks.

“Hmm… out of all the girls, I’d say Jenna, but you guys are all attractive. I’d be fine with dating any of you guys if it were possible,” You say honestly.

“Jenna, eh?” Paige arches her neck and looks past you and then says, “Well, sorry about that. I think my talk with Tom sort of sent him to his plan B.”

“It’s okay, I’m not planning on finding love anyways,” You say, looking back regretfully. “They look nice together.”

“Aww Matt,” Paige says and reaches over and then gives your hand a squeeze. “You’re a sweet guy, you’ll find someone.” Buzz!

“Maybe, but not in this modeling convention. I feel like… out of place here,” You say.

“Look, Matt. Not all girls are superficial, like me, okay. Maybe a girl will walk in and will say, ‘Matt’s the guy for me. I’m not into supermodel heartthrobs!’” Paige says enthusiastically.

You laugh. “Well… they did send someone like me in. Maybe they will. Though I probably won’t get that far to see it. I know I’m gone at the first elimination.”

Paige again takes your hand and squeeze. “I’ll make you a promise. I’m going to try my best to get Jamie, but if SOMEHOW, like as if right, if somehow Jamie couples up with someone else and Tom is with Jenna then I will save you. How about that?”

Your eyebrow raises. “You would do that for me?”

Paige nods, “Everyone deserves a chance to find love, Matt. If someone else picks Jamie at the recoupling, I’ll save you and make sure Jamie picks me for the next coupling.”

You smile. There was some hope, after all.

Later you spent under a good hour talking to Paige about random stuff, mostly TV and movies (though you tried to avoid the ones she hated on her profile), before you went to eat dinner. You check your notifications on the AMA.

It’s strange to you you can develop these relationships so quickly. Is this app overestimating you and these relationships? Paige did offer to save you, so maybe she did really consider you a friend. No time to think as two people approach the resort.

“We’re back!” A couple shouts as they re-enter the villa.
