"Did that hurt you?" you ask. "I'm so sorry, Ms. Sterling, I'm..." Your voice trails off. Your brows knot and your eyes brim with water. The dim room swims and blurs through your tears. They're not flowing yet. Not yet.

Ms. Sterling grasps your hand. "Mind, now," she says. "I'm still your tutor, and I need something from you. Are you listening?"

"Yes, Ms. Sterling," you say, blinking away the tears and putting aside your feelings of sorrow for yourself. A Beavertail rises to the occasion. Endures. Does the necessary. "What do you need?"

"Your wild talent did injure me," Ms. Sterling says. "As part of the consequences, I cannot end the pregnancy. I am weakened and my aura is tangled in the conceptus. Too much of me is there. In order for me to recover sufficiently to start working with you again, I need your help to heal."

"Yes, of course," you say. "What kind of help?"

"That's a brave boy," Ms. Sterling says. "Let me tell you."

You are in the PATERNITY condition. Ms. Sterling is your HANGER-ON and will need your assistance from time to time. At the end of the term, if nothing changes, the baby is due.

What does Ms. Sterling need from you?

• Ms. Sterling needs nursing through her magical shock. Use DILIGENCE (similar to GET OUT OF DETENTION) to remove your CONSEQUENCE: PREGNANCY SCARE and work out how to continue at Boarbristle. Use ADVANCEMENT once you've worked through the PREGNANCY SCARE version of GET OUT OF DETENTION.
• Ms. Sterling needs to call upon your aura to supplement her depleted energy. Exchange PREGNANCY SCARE for DRAINED. Use ADVANCEMENT, spend 5 XP and take +1 BRAVERY (to +1) and use BRAVERY (similar to GET OUT OF THE INFIRMARY) to feed Ms. Sterling your energy until you get a success. Roll +BRAVERY(+0) (+1 Bravery, -1 CONSEQUENCE: DRAINED) and describe the consequences for yourself and for Ms. Sterling until you succeed. A 10+ success will remove your CONSEQUENCE. On a 7-9, you heal Ms. Sterling's aura but keep CONSEQUENCE: DRAINED, or you can use your FAVOR from Miss Wormwood to get a restorative tonic.
