What's next?
Only if nothing else works. (Edited)
"That is her decision. Not mine. How about we get her some of your mom's potion first and go from there." I shook my head. Not that I didn't want to sleep with Elsa or that I hadn't thought about it on a few occasions. I took her through the barrier to the tree were Aurora and the high priestess were waiting for us.
Though it couldn't be seen by daylight yet the small pound glowed at night with mana. It had grown faster then any sapling I had ever seen and was about the size of a small child now. From what I read it would keep growing at a faster rate until it really got a thick layer of bark on the outside which took about a year.
I left when they suggested that Elsa take a bath in the pond. Not that I didn't want to see her naked but I wanted it to be out of choice. Hell knows I had already seen Roses mom naked several times now to just find her praying in the pond. Least I had a clue what Rose would look like in a few years which was not bad. I decided to practice magic to take my mind off of things as I looked around for a bird. I soon found an eagle flying in the sky and figured why not. He was low enough that it just might work.
"Animalem delectationem amicum." I held out my arm. It took a little bit to get his attention before he came to me. "Hello big guy." I smiled. His wing span was pretty huge but luckily he was light for his size.
"Simul animalem oculas." I said and cast him out as he took off flying. I closed my eyes and saw myself flying into the air. I sat down so I was comfortable. It felt amazing to see the world like this. Like I was the one that was flying. I flew over widowshill seeing Seren and Felicia pulling up crops. The bird seemed to know where I wanted to go next as it flew over to the fort. The view was amazing from above. The bird wouldn't go any closer, probably out of self preservation, but it did circle around for me. I went west over the Kingswood wondering how far I could go. The canopy was pretty thick so other then along the roads and rivers I didn't have much of a view. After about an hour I reached the fort which seemed to shift as I flew over the barrier and could see the men below. The barrier didn't work overhead. I had covered a half a days ride in about an hour though the birds eyesight seemed to get dimmer the further I went. I kept going toward the border wondering how far I could go.
I soon found something I hadn't seen before. A small village on the outskirts of the forest. I quickly realized it was elven in nature. It was the village Elsa had mentioned. A place for half bloods like her or Rose. I was sure many had probably been the products of rapes during the war while a few like Rose might have been under happier circumstances. I saw several girls nearby splashing in the river as they bathed themselves though my vision was to dim to see details. I open my eyes and smiled. I hadn't expected it to go for that far. I walked inside to find Rose sitting at a table reading. We had put up several bookcases so that the common area was starting to look more like a library.
"Were you meditating?"
"Flying actually. Seren showed me a how to see through animal eyes when we rode south. How is Elsa?"
"Resting. Mom did a cleaning ritual and gave her a potion to help her rest."
"Good. About earlier. Why is it you are okay with this?"
"I have had time to get used to the idea now. I admit I would love to have you to myself but that is the human part of me. The elf part of me understands that you will never be mine alone. I don't even for how long giving your willingness to put yourself in danger to help others. All we have is now."
"I could give up all this. Find some nice little place. Just the two of us."
"Then you wouldn't be the man I love." She shook her head.
"So you rather me stay the way I am even if it gets me killed." I smiled.
"As baroness I could at least carry on some of the great things you have started." She replied.
"At least wait a year before you remarry." I laughed.
"No promises. You know how many lords will want to become lord of the Kingswood. Sure you can't build on it or even cut a tree down without angering the Dyrads but the hunting is excellent." She said taking my hand.
"So what are you looking at."
"Anything that can help. I was wondering if their was a way to increase the shared sexual pleasure spell to maybe include the other senses."
"So that you could have sex with me and Elsa could watch. I don't think that will work but I suppose I could try. It's a difficult task but I am willing to give it a try." I grinned.
"Yes. I know how grueling it must be for you." Rose shook her head at me.
The potion was enough to help Elsa through the day but I could tell from the way she looked at me like a piece of meat it probably wasn't going to be enough to sate her appetite.
I headed to Huntersrest the next morning but shortly after I arrived one of the guardsmen announced riders approaching. A small troop of men road into the courtyard a few minutes later. The few in front were a little hard to miss with the red capes and gold plated pauldrons that bore the Lionhart crest lead by Diana.
"General." I smiled as Diana dismounted.
"Baron." She nodded then looked back as one of the riders dismounted. "May I present Prince Charles Lionhart."
"Your Hignness." I bowed.
"So this is the hero I have heard so much about? I thought you would be taller." He offered his hand. "I am here to take command."
"Your more then welcome to it my lord." I nodded. "They don't need you with the fleet anymore my lord?"
"Hardly. With the capture of the ports and the seizure of so many ships or fleet controls most of the Sapphire Sea." We talked through the details of the fort and the watch towers on top of Widowshill and in the Kingswood. Diana filled him in on Ravenshill which they had passes on the way in.
"Impressive work. The town as well. It fills strange how much this place has changed since so much since I came this way last year."
"Thank you my lord." I nodded.
"I would like to ask your help with another problem." He smiled.
"Name it."
"The Highlands. I wish to see Ravenshill be better defended. The current strategy is that if it should come under an attack troops could be sent from the capital. And any enemy **** who wanted to take the city would have to take fort or risk the fort being used to attack their back lines." He said unrolling a map onto the table. However the long term goal is to build a wall, which could take years, and divert the course of the river to serve as a moat. Neither of which will be easy given the terrain but then no one has ever tried to build a farm on top of, what did you call it?" The Prince looked at Diana.
"Widowshill." Diana nodded.
"I could take a look. I can't make to many promises but I know a little magic that can help." I nodded.
"We can get more mages to do the work. I just need to know what we need to do to get it done faster. We can bring in goblin slaves if we need more manpower."
"No offense my lord but I don't think that is the best idea. Many of the women who live nearby suffered at their hands not to mention others who had to flee to the city. It could cause more problems then they are worth.
"Very well. I can respect that." The prince nodded.
"Plus we need muscle. Goblins are smart but weak. Though it might be funny to watch."Sura spoke up a small smile crossing her lips.
Me and Sura rode to Ravenshill where we meet up with the combat engineer who was an orc. He had been just a grunt during the elf war serving as a combat engineer. Now he was in charge of a small troop of his own men.
"So this is the path." I said to the orc. They where laying out stakes in the ground that would mark the path they would need to dig with the stakes on the inside and outside of the path.
"Yep. First problem is the hills as you can see." He pointed to part of a hill that was in the way. "They want us to build a curving path all the way to Hunterrest three leagues away. Even if we get the hills out of the way this ground is filled rocks and stones. Its about as hard as my wives head. It won't be easy but neither was she." He joked.
"Probably not but I have a few idea." I said walking to the first hill and held out my hand. "Terra celer harenae." The end of the hill turned to quicksand which spread out over the ground since it had no earth to hold it together. The mound grass on top sunk in. I turned to see the orc and several men looking at me.
"Have your men keep marking out the path for today. I will take care of as many hills as I can before I run out of magic. Send a few towards Huntersrest and do the same. If we can dig a trench all the way to the river we can get it to do part of the work."
"Can do boss." The orc nodded.
I cleared out several acres of land before I got tired and took a break feeling my magic slightly depleted. I went to check on the men digging the trench finding some trying to dig up a large rock. I told them to leave it and focus on the ditch. It didn't need to be straight. I pulled the rock out of the ground, which was a decent size, using magic then decided to call it and road back to Hunters Rest where the orc had a good sized area marked out and a small ditch dug out that was only several yards from the river where it would meet up. I road back through Hunters Rest where I noticed they had gone back to building the keep. I talked to the Prince for a bit as I gathered my things from the tent.
"Must feel a little weird me taking over this place considering the work you put in it." The prince said handing me a book.
"Some but I am not a military leader." I shook my head.
"Some might argue that." He grinned.
"I just did what needed to be done."
"More glory for the rest of us then." He shrugged and took a seat. "I will send a request to the Academy for mages skilled in earth magic and see how they do. That woman of yours. The Teacher."
"Rose. My fiancee." I nodded.
"Congratulations. She have any teenage students?"
"A few."
"I will offer them a silver a week to assist with the fortifications. I don't expect a full days work out of them but every bit helps."
"Thank you. A silver goes a long ways around here. I will talk to Rose."
"My family owns a few silver mines so no sweat off my back."
"Sorry about the keep not being finished." I smiled.
"I have been on a ship for the last few months. Between you and me I am just glad the fucking ground isn't rocking beneath my feet."
I rode back homeward stopping at the hill to talk to Rose as she picked out a few students. Five of the oldest who were old enough to do the work. After that we headed home and had dinner before it started getting dark.
"So you are finally free." Rose teased me.
"Hardly. I still want to help watch the border. The Kingswood is still mine to protect." I shrugged. I just had a feeling that it wasn't over yet. Suddenly a knock came at the door.
"Come in." Rose said. I expected to see Elsa but is wasn't Elsa.
"I am sorry to bother you." Seren said as she came in.
"Princess Seren. What are you doing here?" I said getting out of bed.
"The same as your guest I suppose. Aurora filled me in." Seren shrugged as she came into the room.
"I thought you already had your calling?" I said.
"I don't think that matters. Either because of the sappling or me being half human, maybe both." She shrugged. She was the second half elf to show up here.
"I know how you feel." Rose smiled taking her hand and lead her to the bed. "Do you want me to leave the two of you alone?"
"No. I am not into girls but I do not mind..." Seren blushed. "Sharing."
