How does Evelyn's overtime play out?
Busting the Burglars Part 3
After giving Evelyn a kiss, Spencer said "So when will I see you?"
"Don't know really. Might be tomorrow."
"Sure. See you then."
The two exchange one more kiss before parting ways. Inside, Evelyn put her duty belt on, which accompanied by her business casual outfit, gave her the look of a detective. As she drunk a coffee, she tried to picture Darren's son. She was certain he had shown her a photo of him before in his wallet, but Evelyn couldn't picture him.
When Marcus pulled up, Evelyn walked and got in the passenger seat.
"Deputy Brown?"
"Detective Pepper."
Marcus flashed a slight grimace on his face. "Let's go."
"So what's the deal?"
"We've got a warrant."
"For real?"
"Kid fits the description, plus some of her friends have confirmed that he's been hanging around Sharon."
"Right."
"So, does Darren have any guns?"
"He carries one for his job."
"Great."
"Yeah, well don't stand in front of the door this time."
"Don't have to tell me twice."
"I mean it. You know what cornered rats are like."
Marcus nodded. "You've got all your stuff, right?"
"Sure do." Evelyn patted the grip of her Glock 22.
"Alright."
Marcus pulled up at Darren's house, and led Evelyn to the doorway. He then knocked on the door, which was answered by Darren. "Evelyn? What a surprise."
"Hey Darren." Evelyn pulled out her badge. "Afraid this is a business call."
"W-what do you mean?"
"We have a warrant for you son, Brian."
"What? That can't be possible."
"Is he here?"
"N-no."
Sensing the quivering in Darren's voice, Evelyn said "How about we sit down?"
"Sure... yeah..."
Evelyn and Marcus followed Darren into his living room. Whilst Darren sat down, Marcus looked at the coffee table, searching for any of the items Brian may have stolen.
"So what has he done?"
"We think he's responsible for some recent break-in."
"How bad is it?" Darren's voice trembled as tears welled in his eyes.
Evelyn sat down next to Darren and put her arm around him. "Well, the sooner you help us find him, the sooner this is over, okay?"
Darren nodded.
"So is there anywhere he'd be right now?"
"There's a cabin by the river. Old man used to live there before he went to a retirement home."
"Okay. You've got an address?"
"607 Taylor Road."
"Right. So anyone else he could be with. A friend maybe?"
"I wouldn't know... we basically live separate lives."
"You wouldn't mind if I took a look around?" Marcus interjected.
"No. Brian's room is down the hallway. Last room on the right."
"Thanks."
As Evelyn continued to comfort Darren, Marcus headed to Brian's room, his hand gripping his Glock 22 handgun. Whilst he wanted to believe Darren, he'd already had one brush with complacency for the week. After opening the door, he looked into the room, finding it empty. Inside the room, Marcus grabbed his radio.
"This is Delta 37 to dispatch. I need a unit to check out 607 Taylor Road for a burglary suspect. Be advised suspect may be armed."
"Copy that, sending a unit there now."
Marcus proceeded to move to the desk, where he saw a technical manual on alarms. After taking a photo of it, he rifled the drawers, finding a folded map. Upon opening it up, he realized he had found his smoking gun: a map of Avonwick with locations marked, including the Collins' house. He was on the right track, all he needed was Brian himself.
