The blood was coming from a larger pool on the over side of the room. In the middle of the pool was a head. His mom’s head. Her lower jaw was missing, and possibly parts of her lower head. It was like something pried her head off through her mouth. The look in her eyes was of terror and pain. Around her were bits and pieces of flesh and clothes. Nearby, her torso was splayed open and her guts were spilled out, leaving it like a husk.

The sight of this was too much for Kazuma. At first, he was frozen in shock. That was quickly replaced by the feeling of his throat burning. Before he could stop himself, he retched onto the floor. Next to him, Yuzuha stared at the mutilated corpse of her neighbor. A little past her remains, Yuzuha could make out the form of another pile of remains. Yuzuha turned to Kazuma and put her hand on his shoulder. “Let’s go,” she said quietly as she helped him up.

After they exited the house, the called the police and waited outside for them. Kazuma was sitting on the curb. He was still in shock over seeing his parent’s dead, mutilated bodies. Satsuki sat closely next to him, trying to comfort him, while fighting her vampiric urge. She could still smell the scent of blood from the house. Part of her wanted to feast on the delicious blood of Kazuma’s mom, but she was able fight it off. I can’t do that to him. Not now.

The police arrived shortly. Some investigated the scene, while a middle-aged officer questioned Kazuma, his girlfriend and her mom. Kazuma was still recovering from what he saw.

“So, you said the door was locked when you got here?” the officer asked. “Yes,” Kazuma simply answered. “Do you know if anyone else had a key?” Before Kazuma could answer, some one else walked up to them. “Sorry, Arima, but this case is under our jurisdiction.” The speaker was a tall woman wearing a suit. Her blonde hair was done in a bun. The officer, Arima, turned to face her. “After seeing the crime scene, I’m not surprised. So, you will be taking care of them?”

“Yes. Again, sorry for the trouble.” She said.

“Don’t worry about. Just be careful that it doesn’t end up like that time,” the officer said before he bid them evening.

The woman turned to the three. “My name is Ari. I will be taking you back to the house. I already have someone there keeping watch. I will explain once we get there.”

Kazuma, Satsuki, and Yuzuha followed Ari back to the Fukabuchi residence. Once they were inside and the door was closed, Ari turned to face them. “Before I explain, let me change.” Before Kazuma and Satsuki could ask what she was talking about, they saw glowing particles appear from her skin. As they floated away from her, her body changed. Her ears became long and pointed and her skin color became fairer. Once the change was done, she introduced herself. “My real name is Ariawyn, and I’m a guardian.”
