Blood

Kazuma looked back into his house. On the floor, he saw two pairs of shoes. He recognized them as his parents. So they are home... he thought to himself. "I'm going to take a look inside." he said as he looked back. "I'm sorry," Satsuki began. "The scent of blood is driving me nuts. I don't think I should go inside."

"It's ok, I'll go with him," Yuzuha assured her daughter. Kazuma nodded and turned to enter his house. As he entered, he pulled out his phone and tried to call his mom. As soon as the call started, he could hear her phone ringing from inside the house. Kazuma and Yuzuha moved cautiously towards the source of the ringing. From the entry way, they could tell it was coming from the living room. The room was dark, so Kazuma felt along the wall for the light switched. As he walked, he heard a squish sound as he put his foot down. Hearing that, he froze. What did I just step on. He turned on his phone's flash light and slowly aimed it at his feet.

Beneath his foot was a red puddle on the carpet. He could see from its shape, that it came from within the room. He followed the liquid with the light to find its source.

He later wished he hadn't.
