Dinner with Dani's Parents

Spencer and Dani found her parents seated at a table at Calabresi. They wave before sitting down, with Angela saying "Hey dear."

"Hey Mom. Hey Dad."

Chris nodded as Angela said "So how's retirement?"

"Pretty great so far."

"Been up to much?"

"Uhh, we did go for a walk, but I think that pretty much convinced us to stay inside."

"Yeah pretty much." Spencer looked to his girlfriend, trying hard not to smile at the thought of what else they did.

"Oh I can understand that." Angela said.

"So you two been up to much?"

"Well yeah, we've both been avoiding the cold."

"Fair enough."

"That and planning Christmas Eve dinner." Chris added.

"Oh yeah, of course." Angela looked to Spencer. "So you and Amy will be coming around?"

"Of course."

"What about your parents?"

"Uhh, they're away right now."

"What about your stepparents?" Dani added.

"Stepparents?" Angela gave a puzzled look. "Does that mean Amy's mother's coming around?"

Dani stammered as she realized the position she'd pushed Spencer into.

"Uhh... No. Actually my previous wife passed."

"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that Spence."

Dani's hand darted to his shoulder "I didn't mean to bring it up."

"It's okay babe. It was going to come up eventually."

"So, will they coming around?"

"They'll be here on Christmas Day, but they'll be at my place for the week, so we should be able to meetupt up."

"Right."

Spencer, still sensing the awkward silence, decided to attempt some humor. He looked to Chris and said "So the economy?"

Angela chuckled as Chris replied "Well, it's going a little better than we are right now."

After a smile, Spencer looked to his girlfriend, who still looked a little anxious after what had transpired. After eating their mean in awkward silence, the two couples went their separate ways. Inside the SUV, Dani said "I'm sorry Spence."

"It's okay." He kissed her cheek to reassure her. "You didn't mean to."

"I know... I just."

"Hey, I've had the parents of a girl walk in on me taking her virginity on prom night, so I've been through worse."

Dani laughed for a second before looking to Spencer's devious smile. "Why doesn't that surprise me?"

"Because you know I'm irresistible." Spencer kissed Dani again as she laughed. "Anyway, it was always going to come up. We'd have to cross that bridge anyway."

"True."

"So shall we get going?"

"Yeah."
