It starts before school

"Bobbi, you're sure this'll work?"

Lexie was not the most well-known person at school. She wasn't shunned, but she wasn't popular. She wasn't failing, but she wasn't on the honor roll. She was pretty, sure, with clear dark skin, long curly brown hair, and a pleasant, slightly pear shaped body, but she wasn't very confident about putting herself out there. Which is why her friend Bobbi had decided to give her a hand! Bobbi herself was wider, and had slightly lighter skin, contrasting a bit more against her usually-all-black outfits and glinting piercings, but if Bobby was a goth she was definitely perkier than you'd expect. She'd been grinning since she drove over to Lexie's house to pick her up, clutching a sheet of paper close to her chest.

"Of course I'm sure!"

That piece of paper was now wet, pressing against Lexie's ribs as she held her shirt up, Bobbi holding a sponge to the outside of it to make the intricately inked rune set into her friend's skin. See, Bobbi had some 'eclectic interests', which if Lexie were a bit more confrontational she would have called 'bullshit', but as she was now she caved to her friends occult interests and decided to humor her.

"Trust me, as long as you have this mark on you, anything you wear will look like you're ready for the red carpet! You're gonna want me to give you a permanent version by the end of the day, I'm telling you!"

Lexie wasn't so sure, but as the ink dried over the quarter sized rune, which looked like an oval with arrows inside spiraling to its center, she at least was happy that she could keep it hidden under her shirt the whole day. The long-sleeved pink shirt she was wearing left just a sliver of her midriff exposed before her jeans covered the rest, and the plain white underwear she had on underneath was comfortable, if nothing else. As the two girls hopped in Bobbi's car and made their way to the high school, both happy this was their last year, Lexie shifted in her seat, chalking her discomfort up to the still clammy-skin around her makeshift tattoo, and not the unnoticed, subtle shrinking of her outfit.....
