What does the temple hold?

Skyward Towers

Zelda had not taken a single step forward before the old man spoke up once again, "Take the torch, I think you'll need it." She walked back over to the fire and took hold of an old torch sitting up against the rock. Then down she went, her bare feet once again on the grass and dirt road to the temple.

It wasn't long before she was interrupted in her journey; a creature jumped out from behind a tree and growled at her. Her memory told her that it was called a Bokobolin, a stout red monster with a pig nose and a horn atop its head. The monster wielded a stick and swung it about as it approached. Zelda easily dodged and smacked it in the head with the torch. He screamed and flailed about in anger before returning to its earlier stance as it slobbered on the ground. This time, Zelda took the initiative and walloped him before he could strike.

The beast gurgled and disappeared into a puff of purple smoke and left behind a horn and a tooth. Zelda collected these, as something in her head told her it would be best to hold on to such items. She continued on her adventure, stopping by the occasional apple tree for a snack. She met yet another monster on the road, a chuchu. It was a little blue blob with eyes that rolled toward her then leapt at her only to be easily swatted by Zelda who collected the remains of its jelly.

As she entered the ruins at the foot of the temple, she saw another Bokobolin up ahead. He was squatting down and beating the stone with his club. Zelda tried her best to get by him, but she was unlucky and the beast smelled her out. The fight was like before only, her torch broke midway through and she was **** to pummel him with a stick until it broke. After its passing, the monster left behind its remains and even the club which Zelda hoped would prove to be a more durable weapon.

From there on she ascended up the stairs toward the temple, passing ruined buildings and large rusted automatons with broken arms that had rusted away long ago. When she reached the top of the stairs, a third Boko stood between her and the temple. This one had a makeshift bow and shot an arrow that nearly hit Zelda as she rounded the corner. She fell back and instead peered out before rushing. He fired another shot, but Zelda held the club in front of her and blocked it then went in for a hefty wing that sent the monster flying into the wall.

Zelda picked up the bow and what little arrows it had and moved forward into the ruined Temple of Time. A statue stood at the end of the building, glowing with heavenly light that beckoned for her to approach. Upon reaching the stone figure, a voice called out from within, "Zelda, I am the goddess of this land. You will return to me in time, but for now. Go to the area marked on your slate. Go and find the shrines and return to me with their treasures. Then I shall tell you your role in this world."

Zelda looked down at the slate and saw a yellow light in the darkness and an arrow she assumed was herself. She followed the Goddess' instruction and found a pedestal like the one before under a canopy of rocks. She placed her slate inside like before and the ground began to shake violently. The rocks above shattered as she rose above them atop this stone tower on its trip to the sky. She could see that more like it were growing far in the distance toward the volcano and plains beyond. When the tower stopped, Zelda tried to regain her balance and return to the slate.

An obelisk hanging above it, covered in runes, turned blue at the base and traveled down to the tip where it formed a drop that fell on the slate. A ding rang out from them and Zelda removed the slate to find that a portion of the map that was once dark, lit up and was now visible and labeled. She could now properly navigate the Great Plateau and seek out these shrines the Goddess spoke of and she assumed the four new yellow dots were them.

A call came out from the sky above and Zelda turned around to see the old man gliding to the top of the tower. "Hello, did you like that? It's my paraglider. It lets me glide slowly and safely to the ground from heights such as these."

"Yes, it is. Do you know where I could get one? It is quite high up here and the plateau is larger than I had imagined."

"No, this is the only one I know of. Maybe you'll find one in one of those things that cropped up shortly after this tower?," he pointed down below at a structure in the distance that wasn't there before. "Who knows, maybe they have treasure? If they do, then perhaps we could trade for the paraglider. Anyway, so long." With that the old man flew away and left Zelda to figure out a way down from this tower.

What's next for Zelda?
