Chapter 16 by NeedAMedic NeedAMedic

Is Robin able to hunt down the mage?

Robin defeats the mage as well

The evening was silent, her final opponent nowhere to be seen. Robin drew her sword toward herself, readying the necessary charms to deflect any surprise spell he might throw at her. Though she was mostly only experienced in spell-fencing, Robin knew a few things about more traditional types of magic.

For example, most forms of magic were limited in how they could be cast, requiring a source and some sort of method or item through which to cast. Robin's spellfencing, for example, relied upon the massive well of magical power within herself but had to focus that energy through her blade, or it would just wildly shoot everywhere most likely dissipating into the air with limited or even adverse effects.

Many wizards, by contrast, would use an arcane staff to focus their wells of magic, offering the advantage of far greater complexity and control over their spells. An experienced wizard could craft the absolutely perfect magical solution to any problem... it only took time.

The man she was facing, however, carried no implement. As far as Robin could tell, he was casting spells directly from his hands. This type of magic was generally reserved for the naturally weakest of the different types of magic wielders: a mage. The man likely had very little natural talent for magic at all, and to circumvent that problem he was **** to use his own body to channel the spell. With time, a mage could focus and build up magic within their own body, growing it until they could unleash a devastating attack.

The issues with this were two fold. First, it would be highly dangerous for a mage to contain very much magical energy within themselves, and the more powerful the spell they cast, the more damage it might do to them. Second, it would take time to gather any meaningful amount of energy, meaning they could mostly only cast parlor tricks without a few precious seconds to prepare.

It was the second fact that Robin now exploited. The man may have been standing completely silent, but the moment he began to channel magical energy into himself, Robin knew exactly where he was. It was a move of desperation on his part, and one that cost him dearly.

The mage had only a moment to look up at her in panic before Robin's shocking blade brought him to the ground.

What will Robin do now that she has beaten her attackers?
