What happens in the cave?

The Derp Chronicles 2

“Nope, not this rock either, Yaya!” said a happy little Gorgon as she set the rock back down where she found it and headed further into the dark cave. “Alright, time for the next one!” she said as she hopped along, not seeing where she was going. As she skipped along, Mimi tripped along a loose rock, who Yatina quickly grabbed as she flew nearby. “No, Yaya! No flyfly! I need to walk so I can test the rocks!” Mimi said as she playfully hit Yatina to let her down.

Yatina sighed and relented, dropping Mimi back onto the ground who quickly grabbed the nearest rock and gave it a lick. She stood there frozen, as if lost in thought. Yatina looked on, rather nervously, afraid of what her best friend was thinking, before she got her answer. Mimi’s eyes shot wide open as she threw the rock up in the air, her snakes catching it, as she pointed to the sky.

“This is not the rock, Yaya! We must continue our adventure!” she said as she ran to the wall and began to knock on it. Mimi scurried from one wall to the next, knocking on them all, as if somehow able to tell anything from the noises it made. “Hmm. The knocks say…” Mimi trailed off as she looked at the two paths that stood before the pair. Mimi closed her eyes and, to Yatina’s surprise, spun around really fast. “Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaatnado of Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaats!” the young Gorgon yelled as she clearly attempted to emulate Miho. A faint noise could be heard from the left tunnel, which caused Yatina’s ears to perk up when she heard it. Mimi, however, continued to spin around while saying “pats” at the top of her lungs. “Aaaaaaand that one!” she said as she came to a stop, her hand pointing to the tunnel where the noise came from.

Yatina let out a combination of mews and roars alerting Mimi to the strange noise she heard come from that tunnel. Mimi just reached over and patted Yatina.

“Silly Yaya! There’s no thingy to be scaredy about!” smiled Mimi as she entered the tunnel. Yatina quickly followed Mimi, not wanting anything bad to happen to her.

The cave got even darker as the two made their way deeper into the cave system. The two began to shiver as the temperature dropped lower and lower. The two huddled close together to stay warm as they continued on, Mimi occasionally stopping to lick some rocks but never finding the right one.
The two trotted on, Mimi cheerfully so while Yatina not so much, until they saw a light at the end of the tunnel. The two picked up their pace and eventually came to the end of the tunnel into a large, open room. The two let out audible “awes” as they stared at the bioluminescent lichen that covered the walls. The two rushed over to the nearest group and both gave the lichen a lick, but quickly rubbed their tongues as the bitter flavor spoiled their awestruck nature of the lichen. The two began to explore the room, splashing around in the stream that flowed from one side to the other. Yatina continued splashing around until she noticed Mimi had stopped and looked at her friend. There she saw Mimi transfixed on something behind her. Yatina turned around and saw what the Gorgon was enthralled by: a gem that seemed to be filled with black and purple smoke.

“THAT’S IT, YAYA!” yelled out a happy Mimi as she dashed for it, with Yatina in hot pursuit. The two came up to what appeared to be a stone pedestal for the gem, with the two wide eyed as they stared at it. “There’s one way to be sure…” Mimi said as she climbed the pedestal and stood on the platform, her hands firmly on the gem. She brought her head close to the shiny rock and brought her tongue to the gem’s smooth surface. Yatina watched on as Mimi slowly made contact with the gem, and then licked the side of the gem. Once her tongue was back in her mouth, Mimi seemed to swish around the taste of the gem, as if comparing it to some previous taste. “Yes! This is the one! This is… YAYA’S GEM!” Mimi said as she attempted to pull the gem out but couldn’t make the gem budge. That did not deter Mimi as she just pulled harder but lost her footing, slipped, and tumbled off the pedestal, her head hitting it. Yatina rushed over and licked Mimi’s head as the young Gorgon began to cry. Yatina tapped the pedestal as she moved around to better assist Mimi, but as soon as Yatina touched the pedestal where it was cracked, the thing fell over, the gem rolling away.

“No! Yaya’s gem!” Mimi said as she crawled over Yatina and scrambled to get the gem that continued to roll away. Mimi pushed herself forward but couldn’t reach the gem as it slipped through her fingers. Lucky for her, the snakes were quick to react and wrapped around the gem, securing it above her head. “Yay! Good snakes!” she said as she patted the snakes. “Yaya, I got your gem!” she smiled at Yatina who returned her smile with a look of terror. “Huh? What’s wrong, Yaya?” asked the oblivious Gorgon as a shadow enveloped her. Mimi cocked her head to see what was behind her and there she saw it, a mass of rocks hovering over her. The mass of rocks let out a strange noise as Mimi continued to stare at it, not noticing the hand shaped rocks heading quickly to her head.

Mimi let out a “Ooooo” as she saw a blast of fire smash into the rocks while she was dragged away by Yatina, whose tail had wrapped around Mimi’s leg. Yatina let out another blast of her translucent fire that hit the earth elemental directly in its chest, the creature stumbled back from the **** of the blast. Taking advantage of the opening, Yatina flew off, tail still wrapped around Mimi’s leg, attempting to get back to the entrance. The earth elemental took chase, its howls echoing through the tunnels as Yatina picked up her pace. Meanwhile, Mimi just giggled as she watched the “upside down rocks” play tag with her and Yatina.

The young whelp weaved through the rock formations hoping they would slow down their enemy. Her hope was to no avail as the earth elemental simply smashed through the rocks and absorbed them into its being. The creature, in an attempt to stop its prey, summoned rocks to cover the tunnel that the immature dragon was heading for. The sudden closure caught Yatina off guard, whose sudden aerial acrobatics caused her to drop Mimi as she smashed into a rather large stalactite.

“Yaya!” cried out Mimi as she saw her friend fall to the ground. Mimi quickly crawled over to make sure she was ok. “Yaya, come on, we haven’t been tagged yet!” she said as she shook the whelp. Yatina jumped up next to Mimi before the two were smacked into the wall from the earth elemental’s punch. Mimi was completely oblivious to the hit thanks to Yatina completely blocking the hit. Yatina **** herself back up to protect Mimi, who giggled as she laid on the floor.

“Well, looks like we’re it, Yaya,” said the Gorgon as she got up. “Oh, I have an idea!” she said with a huge smile on her face. “Let’s tag him using the Super Derp Cannon of Pats!” she exclaimed while Yatina looked at her confused. The whelp got the answer to the question she didn’t ask as Mimi’s snakes wrapped around Yatina as the young Gorgon spun around. Mimi giggled as she gained speed, all the while the earth elemental closed the distance between the two of them and it. “Ok, launch!” she said as the snakes let go of Yatina, who flew right towards the mass of rocks and earth. Yatina let out a roar of fear and confusion at the earth elemental as it barreled towards Yatina. The whelp lowered her head and brought all her limbs in, decreasing her air resistance in a sturdier stance. The massive hands attempted to grab the Yatina missile only to shatter as her head made contact with them. She continued through and smashed into the chest of the earth elemental. The creature let out an ungodly howl as it crumbled.

“Aww, rocky went bye bye,” a dejected Mimi said as she walked over to Yatina. “I guess he just really liked your pat with a head!” she said as she reached an exhausted Yatina and gave her a pat on her head. “Here, this yours,” Mimi said as she extended her hands, the translucent gem in her palm. Yatina licked Mimi’s cheek in appreciation of her friendship with the young Gorgon, even if it meant her always getting into trouble. The young dragon reached out and grabbed the gem. As soon as Yatina’s paw touched the gem, a bright light burst forth from where her paw met the gem.

“High Priestess, what is that?!” asked a startled villager as she looked on at the beam of light coming from the mountain range. Her mouth was agap as the light got brighter.

“By the Sun... Where is our king when we need him?” asked Gali as she gathered her elves and moved them to the castle for safety.
