Everyone stopped and looked on as their respective leader clashed with the other...
The Derp Chronicles
In the Throne Room of John’s Castle, two of his citizens resided. Unlike most of the castle’s normal inhabitants, most which were servants or caretakers, these two were far more mischievous than the rest. The two, after playing in mud outside, had made their way to the Throne Room and were currently rolling around on the floor, the mud getting everywhere. Mimi and Yatina were giggling the whole time, with Mimi’s snakes pushing her body side to side.
“Weeeeeeeeee! This is soooo much fuuuuun, right, Yaya?!” asked the Gorgon girl. Yatina happily mewed as she used her wings to spin around like a top.
“Girls!” came a strict voice, which surprised the girls, causing them to quickly jump up and hide behind the throne. “Girls, you can’t hide from me behind the throne!” came the voice from above the girls. Mimi looked up in awe as she saw the silhouette of a busty woman with big wings and furry gauntlets on her hands. She quickly shot down and landed behind both the young girls.
“Ahhhhhhhh! Don’t hurt meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!” cried Mimi as she cowered in fear. The gauntlet came down on Mimi’s head, but Mimi felt no pain. Instead, she felt the warmness of a pat. “Pats? Yay! We love pats!” Mimi’s smile shown like the sun. “Pats! Pats! Pats! We like pats!” sung the young Gorgon.
“Yes, now take these pats and go outside and play. You two are making a mess in here!” Idena softly commanded. Mimi and Yatina agreed to go outside and play after a few more pats. The two wondered outside and saw the High Elves go about their daily business. With their village built, they had moved on to building infrastructure to connect the village to the castle and to allow their village to survive. To that end, some stonemasons were in the process of making a cobblestone path to link the two areas.
“Ooooh. Yaya! First one to touch the ground loses! And no flying!” Mimi told the whelp as she hopped onto the loose cobblestone, and then to the next one, and so forth. Yatina, not one to be left behind, quickly followed suit, hopping from one cobblestone to the next, much to the annoyance of the elven masons.
“Bah! You dang kids! You’re like the king likes you two!” yelled the angry mason as she shook her fist at the two giggling kids. Yatina used all of her power to catch up to, and then pass, Mimi, much to her distress. Mimi, not wanting to be out done, hopped harder than she had ever hopped before, with the snakes flapping to give her more speed, the cobblestones flying out of the ground as the two bound towards the village.
“This road looks like it is coming along quite well,” said a proud Gali, as she looked upon the road that lead to the castle in the distance. A warmth filled Gali as she thought of her king, the man who saved her and her tribe, the man who her heart belonged to. “This road shall connect us with our savior, and as such is an important symbol of our connection to, and devotion to, him,” Gali told the workers that had gathered around her. As she continued to talk to her people, she heard a faint noise.
Tap, tap, tap.
The tapping noise kept getting closer. Gali looked around for a moment, trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. As she turned to face the road, she realized the noise was coming from there, and something was creating it. The giant dust storm that was appearing along the road clearly showed that. Gali reached over and grabbed her staff that was laying on a nearby cart and readied herself for battle. The townsfolk backed away slowly, wanting to give their leader enough space to fight whatever monster had appeared in the kingdom they thought was safe.
The dust trail kept getting larger and larger as it got closer and closer. Gali let out a prayer to her Goddess as she got into a fighting stance. A single bead of sweat rolled down the side of her face, Gali not sure if she could fight a threat to the kingdom without the support of John or another. As the dust storm came over the crest of the hill that was when Gali spotted the perpetrator, or rather perpetrators. Gali let out a sigh and put her staff down as she saw Mimi and Yatina race each other to her as they hopped from stone to stone. Gali giggled as she noticed both girls had their tongues sticking out of their mouths in sheer determination, even her snakes did the same.
“I’m gonna beat you, Yaya!” said the determined Gorgon as she increased her pace. Yatina, not one to be beaten so easily, summoned her last bit of strength to burst past Mimi while engulfed in a strange purple cloak. Yatina let out a triumphant roar as she passed Mimi but suddenly jammed all three feet into the ground in an attempt to not plow into Gali. Mimi followed Yatina’s lead when she too saw Gali waiting at the end of the road. The two stopped right before touching Gali, who gave them a stern look.
“Girls, what do you think you two are doing?” she asked in a soft but authoritative tone. Yatina and Mimi both looked at the ground in response. “Girls, turn around.” The two did as they were told, and turned around. They looked on to see the road was a complete disaster. The stones were all torn up or missing, looking nothing like a road.
“I understand you two are young and want to play, but you must remember to respect the work of the people around you. Our masons have been working on this road for days and you two just destroyed it in minutes. Now I’m going to let you off with a warning, so both of you need to be more thoughtful of other people, right?” asked the High Priestess. The two nodded their heads and got a smile from Gali in return. “Ok, than go on and play somewhere where you can’t destroy someone’s property, ok?” she said as she patted their heads.
“Yay! Pats, pats, pats! We love pats!” said a happy Mimi. “Ok, Yaya, let’s go explore….. THERE!” declared Mimi as she pointed to the mountainous region to the west of the castle. Yatina nodded as she scooped up Mimi on her back and flew off towards the mountains.
“Well, that should buy us some time to rebuild the road. Quick, everyone grab some stones and let’s get to work!” commanded Gali as she bent over and grabbed a stone in each hand and placed them back into their positions on the road.
“Ok, Yaya, let’s go explore!” said a determined Mimi as she skipped along the mountain, Yatina not far behind her. Mimi walked with no fear of falling or running into danger. All she did was laugh, skip, and sing as she went along. Yatina, however, was not nearly as care free as her companion.
“Oooooh. Look at that cloud, Yaya!” Mimi said as she pointed to the cloud she was staring at. With her eyes drawn to the clouds, Mimi did not notice the hole along the mountain path she was walking. Yatina, thinking quickly, dashed forward with her wings and flew into the hole to fill it. Mimi walked on Yatina as she continued to stare at the clouds. The whelp let out a sigh of relief as she climbed out of the hole and followed Mimi.
The duo continued to travel along the mountains, climbing higher and higher. As they climbed up, Mimi would go to the rockface and knock on it. She would then scoot forward a bit and do it again. Yatina gave the Gorgon a quizzical look, having no idea what she was doing.
“Silly Yaya face!” said Mimi as she patted the dragon whelp. “I hear a shiny pebble around here, just gotta find it!” a smile covered her face. “Ok, this way!” she says as she walks towards the cliff edge, much to Yatina’s fear. “Oh wait, I meant this way!” she said as she turns 90 degrees and heads off in that direction. Yatina, with a clear look of distress on her face, follows after her friend with worry in her heart. The two continued on their way until they came to a cave entrance. “Here, Yaya, here! It’s in here!” exclaimed an excited Mimi as she ran off into the dark cave. Yatina let out a worried yelp as she flew in after her best friend.
