The crater

You all get quiet as you approach the fresh dent in the ground, it exists of the outskirts of the small forest; the dirt piled up around it, with the remnants of trees scattered around, it is carved into the soil like a fresh wound. You can hear a strange noise coming from within the crater, and the soft plod of metal hitting the dirt.

"Stay back," You tell the others. "We don't know if this thing is safe."

You slowly inch towards the edge of the crater, your rifle at the ready for the first sign of trouble. As you approach you the side, you begin to make out a figure.

It is a squat towering hairy figure, about twice your size, you ready to fire at the strange creature if it seems it is going to attack you. It turns to look at you, it does so very slowly; eventually, it turns back, unconcerned about you. You lower your weapon; however, you don't let go, just in case.

The thing is covered in a coarse matte of thick short brown hair, with five sharp claws on each of its limbs, the first ones being nearly half as large as you. Unlike a sloth it has a longer almost thin conical skull, it is filled with large flat teeth, and muscles that are clearly defined underneath it. It makes a soft "Whaa" noise.

It turns back, pushing the bits of the crashed ship around, grabbing at the tufts of treetops that had fallen onto the ground, eating them slowly, almost licking them out of its claw with a long tongue.

You turn to ignore the creature, just like it had ignored you.

The crashed part of the ship was mostly scattered around, it's small grey-white chunks laying around with the purple-green leaves. However, at the center was a more substantial part of the ship.

It seems to you it was part of the forward section of the ship, the part ripped off you think after you encountered some debris. This might give you clues on what happened to the Arc, you just need to make sure that the colossal creature will ignore you while you examine it.
